On November 19, the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Ho Chi Minh City reported the results of testing seawater samples in Vung Tau ward.
Previously, the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Ho Chi Minh City requested the Institute of Life Sciences (Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology) to coordinate and support water sample analysis.
The test results of seawater samples in Bai Dau (Vung Tau ward, Ho Chi Minh City) by the Institute of Life Sciences showed that the phenomenon of green seawater was due to the presence of microalgae in the water samples.
This type of algae is called Noctiluca scintillans (genus Noticula, family Noctilucaceae, phylum Dinoflagellata) with a density of 80 cells/ml of seawater.
Ecological characteristics of the algae Noctiluca scintillans (also known as dinoflagellates, luminescent algae) are widely distributed, can be found worldwide , near coastal waters.
Density varies depending on salinity, temperature and nutrient content of seawater.
The Institute of Life Sciences confirmed that the algae species Noctiluca scintillans does not produce toxins. The phenomenon of seawater turning green may cause concern for tourists and authorities but is a natural phenomenon.
Currently, the sea area in Vung Tau ward no longer has the phenomenon of green sea water.
In the coming time, the Department of Agriculture and Environment, the People's Committee of Vung Tau Ward and relevant agencies and units will continue to monitor and supervise the sea area in Vung Tau Ward according to assigned functions and tasks.
As reported by Tuoi Tre Online , on the evening of October 25, images and videos of ocean waves in Vung Tau (HCMC) with an unusual green color appeared on social networks, causing many people to wonder.
Accordingly, at 5:00 p.m., some tourists recorded images of green waves at Back Beach, Vung Tau.
Through investigation, not only in Bai Sau area but also in Phuoc Hai area and some other places, similar blue wave situation appeared.
The unusual change in color of the sea waves has made some tourists worried, while others are curious about this phenomenon.
