The AFC U17 Championship qualifiers will feature 38 teams, divided into 7 groups (4 groups of 5 teams and 3 groups of 6 teams). At the end of the qualifying round, the 7 group winners will qualify for the 2026 AFC U17 Championship finals, along with 9 teams that will be given special entry.
The teams that have already booked their places are Uzbekistan, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, North Korea, Japan, Tajikistan, UAE, Indonesia and Qatar. These are the teams that hosted or finished high in the most recent AFC U17 Championship finals.
According to AFC regulations, the 8 teams with the best results in the 2026 AFC U17 finals will win tickets to the 2026 U17 World Cup in Qatar.
Therefore, the qualifying round of this tournament is also the starting point for the journey to win tickets to the 2026 World Cup for the teams, including U17 Vietnam.
Vietnam was given the opportunity by the AFC (Asian Football Confederation) to host the qualifying round of Group C of the AFC U17 Championship. The draw placed host U17 Vietnam in the same group as Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, the Northern Mariana Islands, and Macau.
This is a group that is suitable for U17 Vietnam. However, coach Cristiano Roland and his team are still expected to face big challenges from Malaysia and Singapore.
According to the match schedule, the Vietnam U17 team will meet Singapore (November 22), Northern Mariana Islands (November 24), Hong Kong (November 26), Macau (November 28), and Malaysia (November 30).
