Mr. Tuong, a parrot farmer in Ninh Thanh Loi A commune, Hong Dan district ( Bac Lieu province) said: "There are many types of parrots, but the lowest price for parent parrots is from 4 - 5 million VND/pair, some are up to 30 million VND/pair...".
Dare to think, dare to do and determined to find a separate way to develop the family economy , overcome poverty is what we felt when meeting Mr. Danh Tuong, a farmer in Ninh Thanh Loi A commune, Hong Dan district (Bac Lieu province) - who has been successful with the model of breeding parrots.

When he first got married and moved out, Mr. Danh Tuong was given more than 1 hectare of land by his parents to raise shrimp combined with growing rice.
Due to his hard-working and diligent nature, and learning extensive shrimp farming experience from neighboring areas, he makes a good profit every year from this model.
Not stopping there, during a visit to a facility specializing in raising ornamental birds, seeing that he could develop with this new profession, Mr. Tuong packed his bags and went to Ho Chi Minh City to apply for a job at the facility.
After nearly a year of "learning while doing", Mr. Tuong bought some parrot eggs and an incubator to experiment.
After successfully incubating parrot eggs, Mr. Tuong invested more than 30 million VND to buy nets to make cages, and at the same time, he researched how to make nests for the birds and compiled his own "secret recipe" to raise parrots to reproduce, laying two clutches each month.
From eggs as small as candy, after nearly 2 years of breeding, Mr. Tuong now has a flock of several hundred parrots.
After successfully raising and breeding parrots, Mr. Tuong began to look for outlets and the market he aimed for was the bird trading and business establishments where he had previously worked to learn bird raising techniques.
In no time, he found orders for his family’s parrots. Recently, he sold nearly 100 pairs of parent parrots, earning a profit of more than 50 million VND.
Currently, his farm has nearly 200 pairs of broods and parent parrots. Mr. Tuong said: "There are many species of parrots, but the lowest price for parent parrots is from 4 - 5 million VND/pair, some are up to 30 million VND/pair.
Therefore, the initial investment capital for raising parrots is quite large, but if raised successfully, you can recover your capital in a short time.
On the other hand, raising parrots is a fairly new model, so the market's purchasing power is still very large. I estimate that after selling all the birds this Tet, I will probably make a profit of more than 200 million VND."
Seeing Mr. Danh Tuong, a farmer in Ninh Thanh Loi A commune, Hong Dan district (Bac Lieu province) successfully raising parrots, many people who were previously skeptical about the effectiveness and profits now often come to visit.
Mr. Tuong also does not hide his profession, willing to share his experience with people in the hamlet, with the hope that many people who share the same passion will achieve high profits.
With his diligence, hard work, creativity, and willingness to learn and experience new business models, Mr. Danh Tuong is a typical Khmer farmer in production, not only enriching his family but also helping his neighbors in the hamlet to develop together.
