Nvidia's smallest supercomputer will officially hit shelves on October 15.

Called DGX Spark, this product is advertised by Nvidia as delivering data center-class performance, equipped with the GB10 Grace Blackwell super chip, ConnectX-7 networking capabilities, and accompanying software suite.

The idea behind DGX Spark is to provide small businesses and developers with a computing system that can run powerful artificial intelligence (AI) features, without having to spend thousands of dollars on data center services or buying AI servers themselves.

Spark is part of a new line of computers that Nvidia is rolling out with partners like ASUS and Dell, to let customers develop and use AI models right on their devices.

Nvidia says Spark can be equipped with up to 128GB of memory, which is useful when running massive AI models.

Nvidia also has a larger, more powerful version called the DGX Station, which runs on the GB300 Grace Blackwell Ultra desktop superchip. However, you can't buy the Spark or Station for gaming or general-purpose applications.

The system runs on the DGX OS (Linux-based) operating system and Nvidia's proprietary AI software suite, specifically designed to build and run AI models.

Nvidia also said users can connect two Spark systems together to run even larger AI models, up to 405 billion parameters. Spark and Station are designed to complement Nvidia's existing AI products, allowing users to prototype AI models before deploying them at scale.

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said in 2016 that they built the DGX-1 as a supercomputer specifically for AI researchers. He recounted handing over the first system to Elon Musk at a startup called OpenAI - from which ChatGPT was born, sparking the current AI revolution.

Mr. Huang added that the DGX-1 ushered in the era of AI supercomputing. With the DGX Spark, they return to that mission, putting AI computing in the hands of every developer to launch the next wave of breakthroughs.

In addition to these desktop systems, the company continues to sign huge contracts with AI companies.

Notably, the company's $100 billion investment in OpenAI will see the "father" of ChatGPT purchase 10 gigawatts of graphics processing units (GPUs) from Nvidia.

Last month, Nvidia also signed a $6.3 billion deal with cloud computing platform company CoreWeave.

Nvidia is also supplying GPUs to Amazon, Google, Meta, Microsoft and a host of other tech giants./.
