Stinging bees are a type of insect, a wild animal that produces a precious type of honey. Stinging bees do not have stingers, so they are friendly pets. Mr. Vu, a farmer in Tran Van Thoi town, Tran Van Thoi district, Ca Mau province, has successfully raised this precious species of bee, squeezing stinging bee honey to sell for 2.5 million VND/liter.

Knowing about stingless bees since 2020, Mr. Tran Phuong Vu, residing in Tran Van Thoi town, Tran Van Thoi district, Ca Mau province, is known as the first person in Ca Mau to raise this friendly bee.
"Before, I raised domestic bees, but because they often sting and abandon their nests, I learned about stingless bees through many information channels and tried raising them and was initially successful," said Mr. Vu.
According to Mr. Vu, when he first started raising bees, he bought the original bee colony for 1.5 million VND. Now, after one year of raising from the initial bee colony, he has developed 10 bee colonies.
"After domestication, this species will be resold for 2 million VND/hive, and the honey alone costs 2-2.5 million VND/liter, bringing high profits," Mr. Vu excitedly said.

Because stingless bees do not drink sugar water or eat sugar, this tiny bee species only sucks flower nectar to create honey and stingless bee honey is black, sweet, thick, and more nutritious than other types of bees and is sold for 2 - 2.5 million VND/liter. Photo: Vu Linh.
Through research, Mr. Vu learned that the characteristic of stingless bees is that they do not eat sugar but only suck flower nectar, so they produce pure natural honey. The honey is black, sweet, thick, and more nutritious than other types of bees, so it is very popular with users.
Especially for small flowers, honey bees or wasps cannot enter to suck nectar, but stingless wasps can enter to find nectar because they are only bigger than mosquitoes, and especially do not have needles so they do not sting people.
To make a nest for the wasps to live in, Mr. Vu made a rectangular wooden box, 1.5 inches wide and 4 inches long, with a lid on top and a hole underneath for the wasps to enter and exit.
The breeding process takes about 6 months to a year to harvest honey and separate the herd. When separating, it only requires a few simple steps and does not require smoke.

Stinging bees are raised in rectangular wooden boxes with a hole at the bottom for the bees to enter and exit. Interestingly, this species of bee is very "loyal", this wild animal does not leave the nest even when there is no food. Photo: Vu Linh.
Sharing his experience in raising this species of bee, Mr. Vu said that stingless bees are very easy to raise. Just cover the wooden box from the rain to prevent water from seeping into the wooden box and causing mold inside, then the bees will grow well.
"Native bees often abandon their nests, but this phenomenon does not occur with stingless bees, because the queen bee always stays in one place and does not fly out," said Mr. Vu. Due to its "loyal" nature, when there is no food, the bees continue to grow and do not abandon the nest.
The stingless bee farming model in Tran Van Thoi district is a new and suitable direction that does not cost much investment but brings high economic efficiency.
