Filed in a New York state court in Manhattan, New York Attorney General Letitia James sued former US President Trump and his children (Donald Trump Jr., Eric Trump and Ivanka Trump) for alleged business fraud. Specifically, the lawsuit accuses the Trump Organization of wrongdoing in the process of preparing Mr. Trump's annual financial reports from 2011-2021.
New York Attorney General Letitia James alleges that Trump and the Trump Organization misrepresented the value of properties to obtain favorable loans and tax benefits. She brought the allegations to federal prosecutors in Manhattan and the Internal Revenue Service in September 2022.

The New York Attorney General proposed a $250 million fine for Mr. Trump, and asked the court to permanently ban Mr. Trump and his children from holding office or operating any company licensed or registered in New York.
Mr. Trump has denied the allegations. Former President Trump last year repeatedly invoked the Fifth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution to refuse to answer questions from the New York Attorney General's office.
It is unclear whether Mr Trump is more willing to cooperate, according to CNN . The former president's lawyers did not respond to requests for comment.

Meanwhile, Reuters news agency reported that Mr. Trump has objected to a judge’s order requiring former Vice President Mike Pence to testify before a grand jury about Mr. Trump’s efforts to overturn the 2020 election results. Mr. Trump’s objection was sealed and filed with the court on the morning of April 10 (US time).
Mr Trump's legal team argued that the judge's decision would interfere with conversations protected by executive privilege.
Last month, Judge James Boasberg of the District of Columbia court decided to ask Mr. Pence to testify about his conversations with Mr. Trump before the Capitol Hill riot on January 6, 2021.
Mr Pence revealed last week that he would not appeal a judge's order requiring him to testify before a grand jury regarding his conversations with former President Trump.
Former President Trump is currently facing two Justice Department investigations led by special counsel Jack Smith, who was appointed by Attorney General Merrick Garland.
The first is looking into efforts to interfere with the peaceful transition of power after Trump’s election loss in November 2020. The second is looking into Trump’s storage of classified documents at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida after leaving office in January 2021, and whether he tried to obstruct the Justice Department’s investigation.
