The female patient who received the kidney transplant is a 27-year-old woman residing in Dong Trieu City, suffering from end-stage chronic renal failure, undergoing dialysis and was scheduled for a kidney transplant. The patient received a kidney from her biological mother. Instead of being transferred to a central hospital, the patient and her family chose to have the kidney transplant at the Vietnam - Sweden Uong Bi Hospital.
The surgery, including the procedures of kidney removal, kidney washing, and kidney transplant, took place over 3 hours, and was performed with high concentration, meticulousness, and utmost care by the team of doctors and nurses, with the support of experts from the Vietnam - Germany Friendship Hospital.
According to doctors, the transplanted kidney is functioning well, producing urine immediately after the ureter is connected. Currently, both the donor and recipient are in stable health.
Dr. Tran Anh Cuong, Director of Vietnam - Sweden Uong Bi Hospital, said: The success of 3 consecutive kidney transplants is not only a professional step forward, but also a clear demonstration of the high technical mastery of the medical team of Vietnam - Sweden Uong Bi Hospital. This is also an important foundation for the unit to continue to develop more specialized techniques, towards multi-organ transplantation, to best serve patients in Quang Ninh and neighboring areas.
Currently, Quang Ninh has 2 hospitals that have implemented kidney transplant techniques, marking the participation of Quang Ninh 's healthcare sector in the national organ retrieval and transplantation system, affirming the province's healthcare capacity, as well as increasingly improving the quality of healthcare for the province's 1.4 million people.
