The Football Association of Thailand (FAT) has just announced the termination of the contract with coach Ishii. This decision surprised many people, because in less than a month, the Thai team will enter the match against Sri Lanka (November 13) in the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers.
On social media, the post announcing coach Ishii's dismissal attracted a large amount of interaction from fans. One account wrote: "Thai football is not suitable for Japanese coaches." Another fan commented: "Thailand has not changed much under Ishii compared to before, and that is why he was fired."
According to the official announcement, FAT explained that coach Ishii's working style and coaching philosophy "are no longer suitable for the development direction of Thai football in the new period".
One fan wrote: "The Thai team plays too pragmatically under the Japanese coach, unlike our usual style." Another account said: "There has to be a change, Thailand needs new faces and a more aggressive, direct style of play."
Coach Ishii was appointed in December 2023 and helped Thailand win the 2024 ASEAN Cup runner-up position, with an impressive winning rate of 53% (16 wins out of 30 matches). Under his leadership, the War Elephants have maintained a stable performance, especially in the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers, winning two matches against Taiwan to finish second in Group D with 9 points.
