On March 17, Ramos received a red card in Monterrey's 3-1 win over Pumas UNAM in the 12th round of the Mexican National Championship. The former Real Madrid star had many collisions with his opponents in this match. The climax was a dirty play, kicking Pumas player Guillermo Martinez in the back, leading to a direct red card for Ramos.
After the match, Ramos shared about the red card: "I cannot leave this tournament without receiving a red card. It's time to rest and focus on the next match."
According to TNT Sports , this is Ramos' 30th red card in his career. Since 2000, no player has received as many red cards as the former Real Madrid star. Following Ramos on the list are Felipe Baloy (29 red cards), Felipe Melo (28) and Gonzalez (27).
Before receiving the red card, Ramos made a strong impression at Monterrey with 3 goals. He was trusted by the coaching staff and given the captain's armband even though he had only just joined the team not long ago.
In the match against Monterrey, Pumas were angry and thought they were being unfairly treated by the referee. A representative of Pumas spoke up: "Mexican football deserves a team of referees who meet the expectations of the fans and clubs in Liga MX".
After this match, Liga MX will take a break to make way for the national team training camp. When it returns, Monterrey will host Club Tijuana at home on March 29, but will be without Ramos due to suspension.
