General Thai Dai Ngoc, Member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army, Head of the Ministry of National Defense's Steering Committee on combating IUU fishing, and Ho Van Mung, Alternate Member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, and Chairman of the People's Committee of An Giang province, co-chaired the ceremony. Nguyen Thanh Nhan, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Provincial People's Council of An Giang, also attended the ceremony.
The campaign focuses on promptly preventing fishing vessels and fishermen from violating foreign waters, contributing to the government 's determination, with the theme "Upholding a sense of responsibility, solidarity, cooperation, and resolutely fighting against and preventing IUU fishing violations." The campaign will run from August 12, 2025 to September 2, 2025.
General Thai Dai Ngoc delivered a speech launching the intensive emulation campaign against IUU fishing.
General Thai Dai Ngoc requested that localities review and handle fishing vessels that have committed serious violations and have been seized and handed over by the military forces, completing this task before August 30, 2025; coordinating legal awareness campaigns to enhance deterrence. He also called for the strict management and prohibition of operations of vessels operating illegally or those that have not returned to their localities for a long time, to be completed before August 20, 2025. Simultaneously, he emphasized prioritizing human resources, funding, and equipment for functional forces; and strictly punishing organizations and individuals who condone or abet IUU fishing.
Military units are closely coordinating with the government and relevant authorities to disseminate and publicize the 2017 Fisheries Law and related documents to ensure fishermen strictly comply with regulations. Information exchange is being strengthened between the navy, border guards, coast guard, coastal military regions, and the 21 coastal provinces and cities; coordination is also being maintained in investigating and assessing the situation, verifying suspected individuals, and preventing violations.
