A study of a lake in California (USA) has discovered about 18 million tons of lithium, known as 'white gold' and estimated to be worth 540 billion USD, according to Unilad on November 28.

Research results show that the "white gold" treasure is lying at the bottom of the Salton Sea, a lake in California.
Lithium is nicknamed "white gold" because of its appearance, as well as its expensive value in technology fields, especially as the main material for making batteries for mobile phones, laptops, and electric cars.
The material is also used in pacemakers, toys, and even watches.
Lithium mines found in California are estimated to have enough to power more than 382 million electric cars.
Biochemistry professor Michael McKibben, head of the research team from the University of California at Riverside (USA), said this is one of the largest lithium mines in the world .
"This discovery allows the US to be completely self-sufficient in lithium and stop importing from China," said Professor McKibben.
If exploited, the lithium mine is expected to have a huge impact on the US economy .
China is now the second-largest exporter of electric vehicles after Germany. According to Tendata, China will account for 22.7% of the world's total electric vehicle exports in 2023, equivalent to $34.1 billion.
The US ranked only sixth on the list, with an export value of 4.8%, worth $7.26 billion.
Meanwhile, electric car imports from China to the US increased from $7.2 million to $388.8 million from 2018 to 2023, according to the US Trade Commission.
Therefore, the discovery of lithium deposits allows the US to reduce its dependence on Chinese electric cars.
