Mr. Nham Quang Van, Captain of Search and Rescue Team 116, said that at around 2:30 p.m. on July 26, the body was discovered drifting in the Hang Trong area of Conservation Center 2, Ha Long Bay Management Board.
Immediately after receiving the information, the authorities quickly mobilized forces and vehicles to the scene to verify.
According to Mr. Van, on July 26, the team mobilized 14 canoes with the determination to find the remaining missing victim, Mr. Hoang Van Thai (born in 1985).
Previously, at around 3:00 p.m. on July 25, the search team discovered a female body in the Cua Dua area, near Titop Island in Ha Long Bay, and the provincial authorities deployed measures to salvage and bring the body ashore to verify the identity.
After verification, DNA test results confirmed that the female body discovered was the victim Hoang Thi Quyen (born in 1975), one of the last two victims still missing in Ha Long Bay in the capsized boat Vinh Xanh 58 on the afternoon of July 19.
Regarding the Green Bay tourist boat capsize accident, at around 12:55 on July 19, the boat was carrying 46 tourists and 3 crew members on a tour of route 2 on Ha Long Bay. At around 1:30 p.m. the same day, the boat encountered a strong storm, capsized, and lost GPS connection signal.
Some passengers managed to escape, but most were trapped in the cabin or engine compartment. Up to now, authorities have rescued 10 people, found 38 bodies, and one body is being identified to determine whether it is Hoang Van Thai or not.
