Loc Ha district ( Ha Tinh ) is maintaining and promoting traditional craft villages to create jobs, increase income and preserve ancient values.
The broom making profession is being preserved and promoted by Ha An people.
This is the time when 12 families in the Ha An Broom Making Association (Ha An village, Thach My commune) are busy working. Mr. Le Tien Dung - Association Chairman said: "With enough raw materials for production, people working hard, all products are purchased... so the households are quite excited. On average, each year, we sell about 200,000 brooms, with a revenue of more than 2 billion VND, and a profit of more than 200 million VND".
Promoting the traditional profession of their ancestors, almost all people in Ha An do this job every day, including children and the elderly. Currently, the whole village has 124 households making brooms with about 450 workers, using about 300 tons of raw materials each year, producing over 2 million products. With the motto "taking labor as profit", on average each person can make 50 brooms/day, earning about 180 - 200 thousand VND/day.
Mr. Le Tien Nuom is one of the most typical households in the traditional broom making village of Ha An (Thach My).
About 1.5 km from Ha An broom village, people in Bao An village are also making incense, stockpiling products, and preparing for the peak market during Tet.
Incense making was previously considered a sideline job, but has now become a major source of income, providing jobs for about 150 workers (52 households still maintain the profession). With more than 800 tons of products sold each year, incense makers in Bao An village have an income of about 5 million VND/person/month, many families have a comfortable and prosperous life.
People in Bao An village are busy producing and storing products to sell at the end of the year.
Also a traditional craft village, the vermicelli makers of Dai Lu village (Hong Loc commune) have for hundreds of years worked hard to preserve their ancestors' craft and earn extra income for their living.
Mr. Dang Dinh Bat - Head of Dai Lu village said: Currently, the whole village has more than 80 households with more than 100 workers who are "keeping the fire" of the traditional profession. On average, each day, people make about 7 - 8 quintals of rice (1.7 - 1.8 tons of vermicelli), earning about 250 - 300 thousand VND/person. Income from vermicelli making accounts for about 36% of the total income of the whole village. To have quality, safe products at low cost, most people take the initiative in sourcing raw materials by cultivating delicious rice varieties (Khang Dan 18 and Xuan Mai 12) to both preserve the profession and develop agricultural production, increase livestock, create jobs and complete products".
Vermicelli makers in Dai Lu village (Hong Loc commune) prepare to bring their products to the market.
Currently, in Loc Ha, there are 4 craft villages recognized by the Provincial People's Committee as traditional craft villages, including: Chau Ha salt village (Thach Chau commune), Bao An incense village and Ha An broom village (Thach My commune), Dai Lu vermicelli village (Hong Loc). All 4 of these craft villages are creating regular jobs for more than 1,100 workers (including children and the elderly), with an average income of about 4 - 5 million VND/person/month.
Along with that, in Loc Ha there are many other craft villages that have been passed down for hundreds of years, creating jobs and stable income for about 1,000 households with about 3,000 workers such as: fish grilling village in Thach Kim, fish sauce salting and sea shrimp making villages (in Thach Kim, Thinh Loc, Loc Ha town, Mai Phu, Ho Do)...
Mr. Le Hong Co - Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Loc Ha district said that the work of preserving and developing traditional craft villages in the district is closely linked to the development of agricultural, forestry and fishery production, maintaining livelihoods, increasing income, improving people's lives and protecting the rural environment.
