Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Ha Thanh spoke at the program.

Voluntary blood donation has become a movement with widespread influence, attracting and receiving the attention of the whole society.

Notably, in 2024, our country received over 1.7 million units of blood, of which the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion alone coordinated with other organizations to receive over 505,000 units of whole blood and platelets separated from one donor. This is the year the Institute received the largest amount of blood ever.

Of the total amount of blood received by the Institute, the amount of blood received in Hanoi accounted for over 68.2%, and in other localities was 31.8%. The rate of people donating blood with a volume of 350ml or more reached over 80%, the rate of repeat blood donors and regular blood donors was increasingly improved and reached over 70%. With the total amount of blood received, in 2024 the Institute prepared over 860 safe blood products, thereby providing them to 183 medical facilities in 31 provinces and cities nationwide, thereby bringing life opportunities and confidence to hundreds of thousands of patients in need of blood transfusion and their families.

The National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion strives to receive about 510,000 units of blood in 2025 to prepare products for medical facilities treating patients. In order to meet the blood supply and continue to develop blood donation to be increasingly high-quality, effective and sustainable, the Institute hopes that leaders and managers will continue to direct, care for and create favorable conditions to coordinate with the Institute to jointly contribute to the cause of caring for and protecting people's health.

Sharing at the program, Dr. Ha Anh Duc, Director of the Department of Medical Examination and Treatment Management ( Ministry of Health ) suggested that the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion continue to have solutions to promote the voluntary blood donation movement, adding blood sources for emergency and treatment work. Accordingly, it is necessary to innovate communication work to raise people's awareness, using new media suitable for young people. Further promote the role of socio-political organizations and unions in promoting the voluntary blood donation movement.

In addition to timely honors, there should also be a better mechanism for blood donors. The State also needs to invest more in blood donation; invest in facilities and equipment to promptly receive blood as well as screen and preserve blood...
