Patient Vang Sung P, a Mong ethnic in Bac Ha commune, was hospitalized due to a spinal injury. According to his family, the patient fell from a height of about 2 meters, suffered severe pain, limited mobility of the lumbar spine, and was taken to Bac Ha Regional General Hospital.
CT scan showed a collapsed L1 vertebra displaced posteriorly, causing spinal cord compression. The patient was then transferred to Lao Cai General Hospital No. 2 for treatment.

The doctors consulted and proposed a surgical plan to inject biological cement to create a vertebral body through the skin. Two days after the surgery, the patient's health was stable, his back pain was relieved and he could move around easily.
In 2021, doctors at Lao Cai General Hospital No. 2 successfully received the transfer of the surgical technique of injecting biological cement to create percutaneous vertebral body from Viet Duc Hospital.
Since then, the hospital has successfully applied this technique to treat many patients with fractures (collapse, rupture...) of the vertebrae caused by osteoporosis, trauma or bone diseases.
In addition, the procedure of injecting biological cement to create a vertebral body through the skin is also indicated for other cases such as: vertebrae destroyed by metastatic cancer, benign hemangiomas in the vertebral body and all forms of fractures or bone destruction of the vertebrae.

Biocement vertebral body reconstruction surgery is a minimally invasive surgery. Biocement is injected into the vertebral body with the purpose of pain relief, increasing the height of the vertebral body, restoring the physiological curve and increasing the stability of the spine. The advantages of this method are rapid pain relief; increased stability of the spine; rapid functional recovery; minimal invasion. Biocement is made from biocompatible materials, safe for the body.
