Free surgery for hundreds of disabled children in Phu Tho

On November 24, at Phu Tho Province Maternity and Pediatrics Hospital, Phu Tho Province Department of Health in collaboration with Center II - under the Vietnam Association for the Relief of Disabled Children, Phu Tho Province Children's Fund organized the opening ceremony of the free surgery program for disabled children in difficult circumstances in the province in 2025.

This is an annual activity to support children with physical disabilities to access high-quality medical services, contributing to improving the quality of life and integrating into the community.

Attending the program were Dr. Le Quang Tho - Deputy Director of the Department of Health of Phu Tho province; Mr. Dong Van An - Director of Center II; representative of Thien Tam Fund ( Vingroup Corporation); representative of Phu Tho Provincial Children's Fund and accompanying units; Dr. Pham Thai Ha - Director of Phu Tho Provincial Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital. The program also had the participation of a group of leading experts from central hospitals, along with leaders and doctors of Phu Tho Provincial Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital. In addition, hundreds of parents and children who were eligible for examination, consultation and surgery in the 2025 program attended.

This year, the program brings together a team of experts and experienced doctors from central hospitals such as Bach Mai Hospital, Viet Duc Friendship Hospital, Viet Tiep Friendship Hospital, Central Eye Hospital, Xanh Pon General Hospital; and doctors from Phu Tho Province Maternity and Pediatrics Hospital. The participation of many specialized units helps ensure that the consultation and surgery process is carried out correctly, safely and effectively.

Dr. Le Quang Tho - Deputy Director of Phu Tho Provincial Department of Health spoke at the program.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Dr. Le Quang Tho - Deputy Director of the Department of Health of Phu Tho province highly appreciated the sense of responsibility and professionalism of doctors and nurses in and outside the province, believing that the program will bring practical results, contributing to supporting children in difficult circumstances. Thereby, he also requested the units to continue to strictly follow professional procedures, ensuring safety in all surgeries.

According to the plan, it is expected that more than 100 disabled children under 16 years old will undergo surgery from November 24 to 28 at Phu Tho Province Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital. The intervention cases belong to many different groups of deformities such as: facial deformities (cleft lip, cleft palate, nasal deformities, torn lips, etc.); post-burn sequelae causing deformation of body parts; motor disabilities (syringophagus, polydactyly, scoliosis, congenital hip dislocation, etc.); ear and eye defects; genital-anal defects and some benign tumors. Each case will be directly consulted by leading experts to provide appropriate treatment.

The Organizing Committee and accompanying units gave meaningful gifts to the children.

On the first day of the program, more than 550 children were screened, had their records created, and participated in professional consultations. Many eligible cases will receive immediate intervention during this period, helping children have the opportunity to restore function, reduce congenital defects, and improve their mobility and communication skills.

The program not only has a deep humanitarian meaning, supporting hundreds of disadvantaged families, but also creates opportunities for medical staff in Phu Tho province to exchange experiences and access new techniques from leading experts, thereby improving professional quality and surgical capacity.

The activity was sponsored by Thien Tam Fund (Vingroup) and received the cooperation of many organizations and philanthropists, creating a sustainable resource to continue supporting disabled children in the province in the coming time. The results of the program are expected to bring more confidence, hope and opportunities to improve the lives of children, while contributing to the good performance of the task of taking care of people's health and ensuring social security of Phu Tho province.
