Cartoon 'Tom and Jerry' returns with an Asian-inspired version

"Tom And Jerry" , one of the most classic cartoon brands in history, will be produced in a new version in Asia to serve audiences in this region.

This new version will include 7 short films each 3 minutes long, produced in Southeast Asia and in collaboration with Warner Bros. Animation.

The project will air on Cartoon Network in the Asia- Pacific region and HBO Go, Warner Bros. Discovery's temporary streaming platform in Southeast Asia, Taiwan (China) and Hong Kong (China) later this year, before being broadcast globally.

The project is produced by Warner Bros. Discovery's Carlene Tan. Vivek Bolar is the main director and is produced by Aum Animation Studios India, with story and design from Robot Playground Media and Chips and Toon Studios in Singapore.

Warner Bros. Discovery representative Christopher Ho said: "This new Tom and Jerry brings back the classic music and animation style from the 1950s by Hanna-Barbera - but with a modern Singaporean update... With its iconic landmarks, settings and atmosphere, this Asian island city is the ideal location to create a humorous addition to the Tom and Jerry series. Collaborating with local creative talent in Singapore and across Asia, this project will expand this beloved franchise in the region and beyond."

“Tom and Jerry are two of our most beloved characters, proving that laughter can translate to any audience,” said Vishnu Athreya, senior vice president of Warner Bros. Animation and Cartoon Network Studios. “Fans in Asia have long embraced these characters and it’s great to finally have our own version of them.”

There are also plans to launch additional Tom and Jerry-branded consumer products to coincide with the launch of the new series later this year.

Tom and Jerry is one of the flagship brands in the Warner Bros. Discovery portfolio. The group says it has a global social reach of 50 million subscribers and nearly 30 billion minutes watched on the Warner Bros. Kids YouTube channel.

Over 500 episodes and 15 films have been produced over the 83 years. The franchise has won 7 Oscars./.
