On the afternoon of November 1st, information from the Can Tho City Party Committee indicated that a decision had been made to allow Mr. Nguyen Van Hong, Vice Chairman of the Can Tho City People's Committee, to retire from his position at his own request; the process for his resignation is being carried out according to regulations.
Mr. Nguyen Van Hong confirmed that his resignation was entirely due to personal reasons and family circumstances, and not stemming from work pressure. After resigning, Mr. Hong plans to teach at a university.
Mr. Nguyen Van Hong was born on December 10, 1968, in Chau Thanh A District, Hau Giang Province. He holds a PhD in economics and has advanced political theory qualifications.
At the 19th session of the Can Tho City People's Council, 9th term, 2016-2021, Mr. Nguyen Van Hong was elected to the position of Vice Chairman of the Can Tho City People's Committee.
Prior to being elected as Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Can Tho City, Mr. Hong held the following positions: Director of the City Development Investment Fund, Director of the Department of Planning and Investment, and Secretary of the Thoi Lai District Party Committee.
Mr. Nguyen Van Hong spoke at a meeting with the electricity sector in May 2023.
While serving as Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Can Tho City, Mr. Nguyen Van Hong was assigned to oversee and direct the activities of Thoi Lai District, responsible for directing the following areas: finance, budget, management of public assets and state-owned housing funds of the city; financial and monetary activities; tax management, customs, securities, banking; industry, trade and services; combating smuggling and trade fraud; restructuring and reforming state-owned enterprises and developing businesses…
Mr. Nguyen Van Hong was also assigned to manage foreign economic relations ; promote investment and trade; direct international economic integration; official development assistance (ODA) projects and preferential loans from foreign donors; and sign decisions on investment policies for projects in the fields of trade, industry, and services…
