Expressing gratitude for the warm welcome that the Deputy Prime Minister gave to the Vietnamese delegation, Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh affirmed that Vietnam attaches great importance to strengthening the strategic partnership with the UK and supports the UK in increasing cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region.
The First Deputy Prime Minister assessed that the relationship between the two countries is in its best development stage. The two sides regularly exchange delegations at all levels, cooperate closely, and regularly support each other on bilateral and multilateral issues. Trade exchange has grown positively, reaching 8.4 billion USD in 2024 (an increase of 18% compared to 2023). Vietnam is currently the UK's second largest trading partner in ASEAN while the UK is the 15th largest foreign investor out of 149 countries and territories with investment projects in Vietnam.
The First Deputy Prime Minister assessed that the relationship between the two countries is still not commensurate with opportunities and potential, and there is still much room for development.
For her part, Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner assessed that the bilateral relationship has developed impressively in many areas, including trade and investment. Ms. Rayner believes that the visit of Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh is an important milestone in the bilateral relationship, contributing to promoting and deepening the Vietnam - UK Strategic Partnership. Deputy Prime Minister Rayner said that with the agreements signed by the two countries, the two sides have many opportunities to increase two-way trade, promote cooperation in the fields of new energy and renewable energy, and make the bilateral relationship stronger.
On that basis, the two sides agreed to increase the exchange of delegations, especially at high levels, contributing to enhancing political trust, creating momentum to promote good cooperation between the two countries and practically celebrating the 15th anniversary of the establishment of the Strategic Partnership (2010 - 2025), soon bringing the relationship between the two countries to a new height. The two sides also affirmed that they will effectively utilize signed trade agreements such as UKVFTA, CPTPP... to facilitate goods to access each other's markets, bringing two-way trade turnover to the target of 10 billion USD and higher. The British Deputy Prime Minister also suggested that the two sides promote cooperation in the fields of crime prevention, including illegal immigration.
Informing the British Deputy Prime Minister about the plan to develop regional and international financial centers in Ho Chi Minh City and Da Nang City, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh said that this is a major policy of the Party and State of Vietnam, thereby promoting the transformation of the growth model, improving the competitiveness of the economy, contributing to socio-economic development. The Deputy Prime Minister asked the British side to share knowledge and experience in developing financial centers; support Vietnam in training and attracting human resources in this field as well as encourage British organizations and enterprises to participate in developing financial centers in Vietnam.
Welcoming the initiative to build and develop a financial center in Vietnam, Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner expressed special interest and affirmed her support for British businesses, experts and scientists to participate in this project in Vietnam, thereby contributing to strengthening cooperation between Vietnam and the UK.
Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh also suggested that British businesses invest and expand their operations in Vietnam in the fields of clean energy and renewable energy, in line with the development priorities of the Vietnamese Government. At the same time, he hoped that the British Government would support Vietnam in training high-quality human resources and create favorable conditions for Vietnamese students to study in the UK.
