On December 10, Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai attended the opening ceremony of Ong Doc River Bridge across Ong Doc River, Tran Van Thoi District ( Ca Mau ), after more than 2 years of construction.

Ong Doc River Bridge connects the south and north banks of Song Doc Town. This is the first sea crossing bridge in Ca Mau Province, eliminating the monopoly of road traffic in the Song Doc seaport area, helping trade to be convenient, fast, safe, creating conditions to promote socio -economic development and strengthen national defense and security, as well as opening up new development space for Song Doc urban area.

Ong Doc Bridge has a total investment of more than 640 billion VND, belonging to the Ong Doc River Bridge Construction Project, the East-West axis and Ganh Hao Bridge; using the central budget support and the provincial budget in the medium-term public investment plan for the period 2021 - 2025. The project is invested by the Ca Mau Traffic Construction Project Management Board.

Ong Doc Bridge started construction at the end of October 2021, with a total length of 1.42 km. Of which, the main bridge is about 690m long, 13m wide, the road leading to the bridge has a planned road width of 30m on the north bank and 40m on the south bank, with a design speed of 50 km/h. This is the largest bridge project ever invested by Ca Mau province. The project affects 174 households that must be compensated for clearance, with compensation costs of 97.2 billion VND.

Ong Doc River Bridge is the first sea crossing bridge in Ca Mau province to be opened to traffic.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mr. Huynh Quoc Viet, Chairman of the People's Committee of Ca Mau province, shared: "Ong Doc Bridge was built in the complicated context of Covid-19, high material prices and harsh weather conditions, but the contractors and construction units have made efforts to overcome. Especially the determination and responsibility of the local government in site clearance, the consensus of the people in the project area, the project was completed on schedule, and quality was ensured".

According to Mr. Viet, the completion of Ong Doc River Bridge contributes significantly to connecting the coastal road of the West of Ca Mau province and the East-West road, forming a complete traffic system from East to West of the province and connecting with the coastal roads of neighboring provinces, contributing to promoting the urban, economic and social development of Song Doc town in particular and Ca Mau province in general.

At the ceremony, Mr. Viet also acknowledged and praised the efforts of the investor, agencies, units and people who contributed their efforts and intelligence to complete the project.

Mr. Viet requested departments, branches, provinces; Traffic Construction Project Management Board, and related units to continue to speed up the progress of construction items, remaining tasks, and especially complete Ganh Hao bridge in 2024 to connect the entire route.
