Within the framework of his working trip to attend the 9th Belt and Road Summit in Hong Kong (China), on September 11, 2024, Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh had a meeting with Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Lee Ka-chiu.

At the meeting, Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Lee Ka-chiu expressed his condolences for the huge loss of life and property in many localities in Vietnam due to the recent impact of Typhoon Yagi and floods; once again sent his sincere thanks to General Secretary and President To Lam, the leaders of the Vietnamese Government and Ho Chi Minh City for their warm and thoughtful reception for the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Chief Executive during his first official visit to Vietnam recently.

Chief Executive Lee Ka-chiu warmly welcomed Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh and the high-ranking delegation of the Vietnamese Government to visit Hong Kong and attend the 9th Belt and Road Summit; believing that this visit of the delegation will contribute to strongly promoting mutually beneficial cooperation in various fields between Hong Kong and China.   Hong Kong and Vietnam; emphasized the utmost importance and readiness to promote the comprehensive development of Hong Kong - Vietnam relations in all fields, contributing to nurturing and enriching the China - Vietnam comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership.

Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh highly appreciated and congratulated Hong Kong on successfully organizing the 9th Belt and Road Summit with many substantive results; expressed his impression of the prosperous development of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region; congratulated Hong Kong under the effective leadership and administration of the Special Administrative Region Government, headed by Chief Executive Lee Ka-chiu, and with the attention and support of the Chinese Government, for achieving great and important achievements in all aspects; believed that Hong Kong would increasingly promote its role as a "super-connector" and "super-added value", continuing to be an important growth pole of the regional and world economy. Emphasizing the important role of local cooperation in the overall comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership and the Vietnam-China Community of Shared Future, which has strategic significance, Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh affirmed that the Vietnamese Government always supports and wishes to further deepen substantive cooperation and strategic connectivity with Hong Kong; welcomes Hong Kong's application to join the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP).

Regarding cooperation in the coming time, Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh hopes that the two sides will increase exchanges and delegations at all levels; promote connections between the “Two Corridors, One Belt” framework and the “Belt and Road” initiative; welcome capable Hong Kong enterprises to participate in large-scale transport infrastructure projects, and expand investment in areas consistent with Vietnam’s sustainable development strategy.

The Deputy Prime Minister suggested that Hong Kong increase the import of Vietnam’s strengths, especially agricultural, forestry, and aquatic products; cooperate in building the Ho Chi Minh City international financial center; actively coordinate in the fields of citizen protection, justice, and law enforcement, especially creating more favorable conditions for overseas Vietnamese and the Vietnamese community in the area; continue to simplify visa procedures for Vietnamese citizens coming to Hong Kong to study, visit, and work; and expand cooperation in culture, tourism, and aviation.

Sharing the opinions and cooperation proposals of Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh, Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Lee Ka-chiu affirmed that the Hong Kong Government and business community strongly believe in the potential and development prospects of the Hong Kong-Vietnam relationship; wish to further promote friendly exchanges and mutually beneficial cooperation in all fields, especially maintaining high-level exchanges and contacts, promoting cooperation in economics, trade, investment, finance, culture, education, and people-to-people exchanges; affirming that Hong Kong supports Vietnam in successfully organizing APEC Year 2027.

On the same day, within the framework of the working trip, Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh and the Vietnamese delegation visited the Victoria Prison relic site, where President Ho Chi Minh (then known as Tong Van So) was imprisoned by the British Empire during the period of 1931 - 1932. Representatives of the relic site expressed their deep admiration for the personality, qualities, bravery as well as the heritage and cultural values ​​that President Ho Chi Minh left behind in Hong Kong in general and Victoria Prison in particular; hoping that this place will continue to be a meaningful address for Hong Kong people as well as tourists from other countries to better understand President Ho Chi Minh and Vietnam./.
