On the afternoon of July 16, Chairman of Vinh Bao Irrigation Works Exploitation Company Limited, Le Minh Tan, informed that due to heavy rains in the past few days, rice and crops were flooded in some localities.
In order to promptly overcome and protect more than 10,000 hectares of rice and crops due to heavy rain, the company proactively implemented preventive measures. Among them, operating the sluice system through the dike to lower the buffer water level in the canals leading to the river.
For bridge and culvert construction areas of projects under construction on canals, the company has sent documents to investors, local authorities and contractors requesting to stop construction, take measures to clear the flow, and direct the flow to ensure timely drainage.
The company is also ready to operate field backup pumping stations and 3 drainage pumping stations: Old Thuong Dong, New Thuong Dong, and Cong Hien to pump water into the river when heavy rain causes local flooding in the areas. The company has increased system inspections, organized removal of obstacles, and cleared the flow of canals in the communes, focusing on areas that are frequently flooded in Vinh Hoa and Vinh Hai communes. The company has deployed forces to be on duty at drainage culverts and drainage pumping stations to proactively operate the system to promptly deliver water to the river when required.
