Saudi Arabia's Al Arabiya television channel quoted sources as saying that the Shura Council - Hezbollah's supreme decision-making body - has appointed Hashem Safieddine as the new Secretary General of the Lebanon-based Shi'ite Muslim party. Safieddine, who was the former head of Hezbollah's Executive Committee, is a cousin of the late leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah - who was killed on September 27 in an Israeli airstrike.
