Tong Co commune has 9 villages, with 95% of the population being Thai ethnic people, still preserving and promoting many unique traditional cultural features, such as: Costumes, xoè dances, sap dances, and nap dances... along with traditional customs and practices, creating a unique cultural feature, becoming a source of inspiration for mass art troupes to exploit, create and spread in the community.
Currently, the whole commune has 12 mass art teams, including 9 village art teams and 3 elderly art teams. Each team has 6-10 members, mainly farmers, women's union members, youth union members, elderly people... During the day, they participate in production labor; at night, they diligently practice art performances to perform on holidays, New Year's, and exchange programs between villages and communes.
Mrs. Quàng Thị Yêu, 67 years old, a member of the Laotian senior art troupe, shared: I have been a part of the art troupe for nearly 10 years now. Despite my advanced age, every time I dance and sing with everyone, I feel happier and healthier. For me, this is not just a simple art activity, but also a way to preserve and pass on traditional folk songs and dances to the younger generation in the village.
In Hinh village, the performances of the village art troupe are all elaborately staged, leaving a good impression and receiving encouragement from the people every time they perform at local festivals and cultural events. Ms. Lo Thi Huong, Head of the Women's Association of the village, said: The team has 8 members; the team collects, choreographs, and practices xoè dances, scarf piêu dances, vi singing, and Thai dances... that are imbued with the national cultural identity. In addition to performing for the village, the team also interacts with art troupes inside and outside the commune.
In addition, Tong Co commune also receives attention for investment in infrastructure and cultural institutions. Currently, 100% of the villages have cultural houses equipped with basic facilities and sound systems, creating favorable conditions for the teams to practice and perform; supporting the restoration of some ethnic festivals, such as: Xen Lau No, praying for crops, contributing to preserving the values of folk performing arts of the Thai ethnic group. In addition, the people of the villages also voluntarily contribute to buying more costumes and props for the art troupe, contributing to enriching and making each performance more vivid.
Ms. Lo Thi Huong, Vice Chairwoman of Tong Co Commune People's Committee, said: The commune directs the village management boards to effectively use resources, combine socialization to develop cultural and artistic movements at the grassroots level. Encourage villages to organize cultural and artistic exchange activities, associated with traditional festivals, cultural and artistic festivals. Thereby, creating solidarity and cohesion in the community, motivating people to work and produce, promoting the movement "All people unite to build a cultural life in residential areas" to develop more and more widely.
