Philippine Billiards Federation President Robert Mananquil confirmed that "Wizard" Efren Reyes will join Francisco Dela Cruz in two men's carom events, instead of their forte pool.
"Wizard" Efren Reyes competed in the 1-cushion and 3-cushion carom events at the 32nd SEA Games. Reyes and Cruz won two bronze medals in the 1-cushion carom event at the 31st SEA Games held in Vietnam.
Efren Reyes was born in 1954, has a specialty in playing pool, was the world champion in 9-ball in 1999 and 8-ball in 2004, he was the first person to do this. He is nicknamed "The Magician" because of his unexpected cues beyond imagination. Efren Reyes has won more than 100 international titles, all kinds of SEA Games medals in billiards events such as: Carom, pool, snooker, rotation (15 balls) or English billiards. In carom, Reyes has not won a gold medal yet.
At the 32nd SEA Games, the Vietnamese sports delegation has 12 players participating, including Nguyen Duc Anh Chien and Nguyen Tran Thanh Tu who will participate in the carom event, competing with "Wizard" Efren Reyes. Thanh Tu is the reigning SEA Games 1-cushion champion while Anh Chien is the 3-cushion runner-up. Vietnam is still rated the highest in the men's carom event.

More than 1,000 members of the Vietnamese Sports Delegation attended the 32nd SEA Games
On the evening of April 19, at the National Sports Training Center in Hanoi, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Vietnam Olympic Committee held a ceremony to send off the Vietnamese Sports Delegation to the 2023 Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games 32). Comrade Le Minh Khai, Secretary of the Party Central Committee and Deputy Prime Minister attended and delivered a speech.
