According to the customs of the Ca Dong people, when all the farming work is finished and the rice has been threshed, the Ca Dong people will hold a new rice festival with the meaning of praying to the spirits for favorable weather, a bountiful harvest, prosperity and happiness, and peace for the villagers.

The festival is revived with main rituals such as: offering prayers to the spirits and the rice spirit; invoking the rice spirit, giving thanks to the rice spirit, and carrying the rice spirit in procession… performed by respected village elders nominated by the community.

In addition, production activities throughout the rice cultivation cycle, from preparing for the planting season to harvesting, are meticulously recreated, such as clearing land, thinning rice, weeding, fertilizing, and threshing.

After the ritual of worshipping the rice god, the lively rhythm of gongs and drums blends with the graceful dances of the village elders and the Ca Dong boys and girls around the ceremonial pole.

Within the framework of the festival, folk games reflecting the cultural identity of ethnic minorities, such as rice pounding, making snail-shaped cakes, cooking rice in bamboo tubes, and preparing dishes, attracted a large number of participants.

Mr. Dinh Van Linh, head of Ha Son village (Phuoc Gia commune), shared that the New Rice Festival has been around for a long time, closely associated with the agricultural production of the Ca Dong community.

This custom has been passed down through many generations and still retains its traditional character. The festival is held after the harvest is complete and is an occasion for people to report to the gods, ancestors, and forefathers that the harvest is finished, to thank heaven and earth for blessing the village and family with favorable weather, bringing a bountiful harvest and prosperity to the village. It is also an opportunity to strengthen bonds within families, clans, and the community…

This contributes to the dissemination, promotion, and preservation of intangible cultural values; simultaneously raising awareness, responsibility, and pride in the community regarding fine traditional cultural values; and motivating and encouraging people to work together to protect, promote, and spread the traditional cultural values of ethnic communities in the current period.
