Whenever mentioning Mr. Tran Dinh Sach, born in 1943, in Residential Group (TDP) 3, Kham Duc town, Phuoc Son, many people cannot help but admire his contributions to the community. Despite his old age, Mr. Sach is still actively doing business , striving to get rich. Currently, his family owns a large tea garden of nearly 1,000m2, which brings in tens of millions of dong each year. Along with that, he raises chickens and digs ponds to raise fish, to improve his life. In addition, he also plants dozens of apricot trees, both to satisfy his passion for ornamental plants and to earn extra money every time Tet comes and Spring comes.

As a prestigious person in the area for many years, Mr. Sach always closely follows and goes deep into every corner to propagate the policies of the Party and the State to the people, focusing on propagating good ways of doing business, mobilizing people to change their way of thinking and doing, thereby rising up to escape poverty sustainably. In the locality, people still affectionately call him "Dad Sach".

Bo Sach is originally from Hiep Duc district ( Quang Nam ), and started his career in Phuoc Son 56 years ago. Thanks to the support policies of the Party and the State, along with the efforts of his family, he has now built a decent foundation for himself. “Over the past years, with the attention of all levels, the local prestigious people have gradually promoted their role. In order to propagate and mobilize well, we must first understand the thoughts and aspirations of the people. From there, we can have good and effective propaganda methods,” said Mr. Sach.

For example, recently, the State invested funds to expand the inter-village concrete road, and he mobilized people in the residential group to donate land to join hands in the implementation. Initially, the mobilization encountered many difficulties, because the majority of people also wanted compensation support. Faced with this, he discussed with his family and decided to donate nearly 160 square meters of land, pioneering in implementing the State's policy.

“To mobilize people, we must take the lead in implementation. When everyone is united, difficult things become easy. Thanks to that, up to now, large, clean concrete roads have been completed, meeting people's travel needs easily,” Mr. Sach shared.

In addition, Mr. Sach is also one of the prestigious people in the locality, playing an important role in propaganda to eliminate backward customs, early marriage and incestuous marriage. According to Mr. Sach, in the past, there were some cases in the locality such as when people got sick, instead of taking them to the hospital, people held worship ceremonies. Or in some cases, the sick person's family even stabbed a buffalo to worship.

“We are persistently campaigning to raise people’s awareness and stop believing in such absurdities. People who are sick should be taken to the hospital for diagnosis and treatment. There is no basis to say that worshiping will cure the disease. Moreover, worshiping is very expensive,” Mr. Sach added.

…to the fulcrum of the village

Recently, we had the opportunity to follow the staff of the Ethnic Affairs Department of Phuoc Son district to visit the villages, and we saw the work that the prestigious people in the area have been doing over the past years. They deserve to be active in mobilizing, orienting and guiding the people in implementing the policies of the Party and the State; especially in recent years, the propaganda and mobilization of the whole people in joining hands to implement the National Target Programs.

Mr. Vo Van Tuong, an official of the Ethnic Affairs Department of Phuoc Son district, said: In implementing the national target programs in the locality, prestigious people, village elders, and village chiefs play an extremely important role. They are the pioneers in propaganda and mobilization work to help people see their rights and responsibilities in the implementation process. Although in different positions, with the spirit of prestigious people, they are very active and enthusiastic in their work.

According to Mr. Tuong, in order to promote the role of the prestigious people in the locality, in recent times, the Ethnic Affairs Department as well as all levels have paid great attention to, taking people to visit and learn from many good economic models. Because more than anyone else, they are the "messengers" to convey good models to their communities. "Thanks to that, in recent times, many new economic models have appeared in the locality, contributing to the overall development of the district," Mr. Tuong added.

Mr. Ho Van Ly, 70 years old, in Phuoc My commune, is one of the exemplary prestigious people in Kong Ta Nang village. When mentioning Mr. Ly, many people cannot help but admire his contributions to the community over the past time. He said that with the support of ethnic policies, prestigious people like him have the opportunity to visit and learn many good production models from provinces, cities and mountainous districts with similar conditions in Quang Nam province. After learning from experience, he propagated to the people to implement together.

“Our people have long been accustomed to farming and cultivating, with not much income. To improve, we must change our ways of doing things, change our livestock and crop models. Also doing agriculture , but some households in the Central Highlands, Binh Phuoc, or recently in Dong Giang (Quang Nam), some households grow fruit trees, combined with raising deer, bringing very high economic efficiency. Therefore, after learning about livestock models in some localities, I have promoted them to the people, and so far some households have applied them and have had positive results,” said old Ly.

According to Elder Ly, to effectively propagate and mobilize people, the first thing is to promote the role of setting an example. Indeed, from 3 cows supported by the National Target Program, his family now owns a herd of 15 cows, worth hundreds of millions of VND. In addition, his family has cleared land, planted 5 hectares of acacia, raised more than 100 chickens, with an income of 400-500 million VND per harvest. In the near future, he plans to test growing durian on the land.

“In the movement to eliminate hunger and reduce poverty, we are also very close. My hometown is mainly associated with agriculture, so we propagate to the people about raising livestock and growing crops. But knowing how to grow grass to store for the winter, knowing how to detect diseases early, to prevent diseases,” Mr. Ly confided.

Thanks to his skillful communication and behavior, the movements initiated by Elder Ly such as building concrete roads in the village, cultural, artistic, physical education and sports activities, preserving national cultural identity, etc. were all agreed upon and actively responded to by the villagers. Despite his old age, all of his words and opinions when participating in reconciling conflicts and disputes in the village were respected, listened to and followed by everyone.

Mr. Nguyen Van Bang, Head of the Ethnic Affairs Department of Phuoc Son district, said: Local prestigious people have shown their role as a solid spiritual support, for people to express their legitimate thoughts and aspirations to the Party committees and authorities. They are also a force that contributes many practical ideas to the socio-economic development program, national defense and security in the locality in a timely and quality manner. Thereby, helping to ensure the political security situation, social order and safety in the villages, blocks, communes and towns; institutions, cultural identities, customs and good traditional practices of the nation are promoted, the trust of ethnic minorities in the district in the Party and the State is increasingly enhanced.

“This force is also a positive factor in propagating and mobilizing people to eliminate backward customs and practices, preserve and promote good traditional cultural values; making an important contribution to the task of socio-economic development, ensuring security and national defense in the locality,” said Mr. Bang.
