On May 22, 2023, PetroVietnam Gas Joint Stock Corporation (PV GAS) signed a Purchase Confirmation Notice with supplier Shell, according to which Shell will provide the first LNG shipment to Vietnam. Shell is a multinational oil and gas company, the world's leading LNG supplier.

To import LNG for the trial run and commercial operation of the 1MMTPA LNG Warehouse in Thi Vai, PV GAS issued a tender offer on April 27, 2023 and received the attention of many reputable LNG suppliers in the world. After the process of evaluating, selecting suppliers and negotiating and negotiating contracts, Shell was selected as the supplier for the first imported LNG shipment to Thi Vai.

The signing of the Purchase Confirmation to import the first LNG shipment is a milestone marking a new development step for PV GAS in particular and the Vietnamese Gas industry in general. Overcoming all challenges in the context of the global pandemic, PV GAS not only completed the Thi Vai LNG Terminal Project meeting all strict technical requirements according to international standards, but also became the first and only enterprise to date to be granted the "Certificate of Eligibility for LNG Export and Import Traders" by the Ministry of Industry and Trade on May 5.

Completing the trial run and putting into operation, Thi Vai LNG Warehouse will be the first and largest LNG Warehouse in Vietnam today, with a capacity of 1 million tons/year in phase 1, then expanding to 3-6 million tons/year.

The 1MMTPA LNG Warehouse project in Thi Vai is capable of receiving LNG ships with a capacity of up to 100,000 tons, with the main items of phase 1 (including LNG tanks with a capacity of 180,000m3 and technological equipment designed according to the latest versions of Vietnamese standards, regulations and international standards...). After completion, the system will supplement the supply of about 1.4 billion m3 of gas to consumers such as Nhon Trach 3 and 4 Power Plants, industrial customers, as well as partially offset the domestic gas shortage after 2023.

LNG Thi Vai terminal will be an important link in supplying regasified gas to gas consumers, including Nhon Trach 3 and 4 Power Plants and industrial customers. Along with the investment in Son My LNG import terminal with a total expected capacity of up to 10 million tons of LNG/year upon completion, of which PV GAS is the co-owner with the majority capital contribution, PV GAS' LNG infrastructure will basically meet the energy demand of the Southern region in the future.
