“We invite you to visit Gaza and see for yourself, in objective and credible terms, the scale of the massacre and destruction suffered by the people of Gaza,” Osama Hamdan, a senior Hamas official, said at a press conference in Beirut.
On Monday, social media mogul Elon Musk was criticized for endorsing an anti-Semitic post, visiting the site where Hamas attacked Israel and vowing to do everything in his power to stop the spread of hate speech.
Mr. Musk is the owner of social network X.
Mr Hamdan's remarks came a day after a truce between Hamas and Israel was extended for another 48 hours.
“In 50 days, Israel has used more than 40,000 tons of explosives to destroy the homes of defenseless Gazans. I call on US President Joe Biden to reassess America’s relationship with Israel and stop arming them.”
Speaking about the devastation Israel has caused in Gaza since the conflict began on October 7, Hamdan called on the international community to quickly send special civil defense teams to help search for bodies trapped under the rubble. Thousands of bodies remain trapped under the rubble, according to the Palestinian Foreign Ministry.
The truce that came into effect last week is the first pause in fighting in seven weeks since Hamas launched a series of attacks on Israel that left 1,200 dead and 240 hostages.
In response to the attack, Israel bombed the enclave and launched a ground offensive from the north. At least 16,000 Palestinians were killed and hundreds of thousands were forcibly displaced.
