The ice cream at this shop isn't the round scoops of Italian ice cream or the colorful, eye-catching popsicles. The winter ice cream slices are neatly cut into squares and arranged on a white plastic plate, each slice a distinct color and flavor: sweet strawberry pink, gentle green of rice flakes, dreamy taro purple, vibrant orange-yellow, rich bitter cocoa brown, and pristine coconut white. Looking at these slices, one's heart suddenly softens, as if transported back to a bygone summer afternoon. The ice cream is smooth, icy cold, and melts quickly on the tongue, leaving a sweet, creamy aftertaste that's just right – not harsh, not cloying, but deeply and lastingly absorbed into the soul.
A large portion for four people costs only 45,000 VND, an unbelievable price these days. But what makes this ice cream irreplaceable are the toppings: fragrant, creamy shredded coconut, finely ground peanuts, golden papaya jam, and sweet and sour candied red star fruit. The toppings aren't fancy, but they combine gracefully, creating a symphony of flavors from days gone by. One bite is like sitting on a low plastic chair under a cool tree, your mother ordering another glass of iced tea from your favorite corner shop. All worries fade away in an instant, leaving only the innocent laughter of days gone by.
The cafe is small, with soft, warm yellow lighting and a gentle breeze blowing from the quiet alley. The elderly owner serves customers silently, as if she were the guardian of time itself. The cafe isn't crowded, but it's never empty.
Perhaps anyone who has visited will carry with them a promise: "Next time I come back to Vung Tau, I must eat that ice cream again." Because that plate of ice cream in winter is not just for cooling down, but it is also full of memories.
