The Lunar New Year 2025 is approaching, people's shopping needs are increasing, leading to the risk of smuggling, trade fraud and production and consumption of counterfeit and poor quality goods. In this situation, the Market Management Department of Da Nang City has deployed many professional measures to control the market, ensure consumer rights, as well as maintain the stability of the goods market before, during and after the Lunar New Year.

Strongly handle violations

According to information from the City Market Management Department, since November, the market for goods has become more active, focusing on food, household goods, fashion , and Tet decorations. This is also the time when many acts of commercial fraud, counterfeit goods, and poor quality goods appear. To promptly prevent and handle violations, the city's market management force has increased surprise inspections of key areas such as Han market, Con market, large supermarkets, and goods trading establishments in the area, thereby detecting and strictly handling violations.

For example, on Tran Nhan Tong and Vuong Thua Vu streets (Son Tra district), Market Management Team No. 4 seized hundreds of handbags and shoes counterfeiting famous brands such as Chanel, Gucci, Adidas. These goods were determined to have no documents proving their origin, violating intellectual property regulations. Meanwhile, in Thanh Khe district, Market Management Team No. 3 discovered and handled 271 pairs of Crocs imitation sandals, and completed the dossier to submit to superiors to issue a decision to impose an administrative fine of VND 55 million... These cases not only contribute to preventing the circulation of violating goods on the market at the end of the year but also raise awareness and responsibility for law compliance of business organizations and individuals.

Mr. Pham Ngoc Son, Director of the City Market Management Department, said that in the face of the complicated developments in the commodity market before, during and after the Lunar New Year, the unit has developed a plan to combat smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods from the beginning of November to the end of February 2025, focusing on the peak period from November 7, 2024 to January 21, 2025. Specifically, the unit will strengthen management, review and statistics of business organizations and individuals to collect information, grasp the situation, market developments, prices, supply and demand of goods, and prevent speculation, hoarding and unreasonable price increases. Along with that, step up market inspection and control. Monitor and supervise the law compliance of food, foodstuff, fashion, household appliances and essential goods businesses to promptly detect violations and handle them according to the law, especially on the internet and social networks.

According to Mr. Son, thanks to the synchronous implementation of solutions, in less than a month of implementation, the unit has inspected 79 cases, thereby detecting and sanctioning 38 violations, collecting nearly 200 million VND to the state budget. In addition, to limit trade fraud, the City Market Management Department closely coordinates with agencies and units in fighting and handling violations, and at the same time monitors the implementation of signed commitments with organizations and individuals trading in goods and services regarding price listing, not producing or trading in smuggled goods, counterfeit goods, goods of unknown origin, goods that infringe intellectual property rights, etc.

“Businesses and traders are reminded not to trade in counterfeit goods, while people are instructed on how to identify genuine goods and encouraged to report violations. These efforts have created a positive effect, contributing to building a more transparent and safe goods market during Tet,” Mr. Son affirmed.

Towards a transparent and safe market

The efforts of the City Market Management Department to inspect, monitor and stabilize the market, in addition to preventing violations, also aim to build a more transparent market - where consumers are guaranteed their rights when shopping, while businesses have a healthy and fair business environment.

It is known that at present, the market management force (QLTT) focuses on checking high-demand goods such as alcohol, beer, cigarettes, food, household goods, electronics, refrigeration, fashion items, livestock, poultry. At the same time, controlling goods traded on e-commerce platforms, websites and social networks... Through the coordination of relevant departments and branches, the fight against smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods has achieved many positive results.

Mr. Pham Ngoc Son said that market management work always receives attention and direction from all levels and sectors from the central to local levels. Coordination and information exchange between functional sectors are maintained regularly, effectively and efficiently. However, he also admitted that the fight against smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods faces many difficulties because businesses often use many different social network accounts or take advantage of technology to avoid authorities, erase transaction traces, remain anonymous on the internet or do not publicize business locations. Not to mention, many businesses sell goods through live streaming on social networks but do not store goods at the point of sale, only make transactions after customers close the order and the live streaming content is deleted immediately afterwards, making it difficult to verify information and track the subjects.

To cope with the challenges from the development of e-commerce and online business forms, the City Market Management Department has been applying many technological measures such as tracing the origin of goods through QR codes, combining the use of data management software to monitor and detect abnormalities in online transactions to improve management efficiency.

It can be said that with the drastic participation of the Market Management Force, the commodity market before, during and after the Lunar New Year 2025 promises to be stable, well meeting the shopping needs of the people. “Ensuring market stability is not only a task during Tet but also our long-term goal, aiming to bring sustainable benefits to the community and healthy development of the economy ,” Mr. Son emphasized.
