Wang Yuxian, in his 30s, used to sell snacks in Leshan City, Sichuan Province (China). Together with his friend Yang Yanli, they ran a small restaurant specializing in serving local specialties such as chicken gizzards, rabbit meat and duck tongue.
Since the beginning of 2025, their business has been sluggish, and their revenue has been decreasing. In early March, Wang posted a video of herself plucking chicken gizzard feathers, a seemingly simple process, but it unexpectedly went viral.

The video attracted more than 5 million views. This gave her the idea to live stream this move on her personal page every day.
To engage viewers, Wang used a sound amplifier to let viewers hear the sound of tweezers plucking chicken feathers. This element creates a unique ASMR (Anatomy of a Migraine Response) experience.
This effect attracted a large number of followers with more than 12,000 viewers. The average viewing time on her personal page also increased to 38 minutes, especially late at night - the time when many people want to fall asleep.
"I watched the video and fell asleep without realizing it. Since watching the live streams, my insomnia has improved a lot," commented one Douyin account.
"At first, I just came in to watch so I could sleep better. Unexpectedly, out of curiosity, I ordered a meal and found it much more delicious than expected," another account said.
At this popular eatery, a 250g portion of fish floats sells for 26 yuan (about 90,000 VND). Diners can choose from 6 different flavors such as spicy, garlic, pepper, and Sichuan-style spicy.
Since their first live streams, Wang has been an unexpected success. Their monthly revenue has exceeded 200,000 yuan (about 710 million VND).

However, some diners have expressed health concerns because chicken gizzards are where toxins can accumulate. For his part, Wang said he always cleans his food thoroughly before preparing it, including plucking out any excess feathers.
In southern China, the fish is a very popular part, often processed into snacks and drinking dishes. Usually, the chef will marinate it with spices, then fry or grill it with chili and sesame oil.
"High-fat fish also provides a rich source of protein," says Wang.
To meet the increasing demand of customers, Wang revealed that every day she had to pluck about 15kg of feathers from fishing floats. Within 2 months, they used up 5 tweezers. Her hands and elbows often ached due to the intensity of her work.
