On May 30, Mr. Vo Van Trinh, Head of the Duc Pho Town Forest Protection Department ( Quang Ngai Province) said that the unit is clarifying the organizations and individuals destroying KfW6 forest in Thanh Son village, Pho Cuong commune, Duc Pho town, to report to higher authorities according to regulations.
Previously, Duc Pho Town Forest Protection Department coordinated with Pho Cuong Commune People's Committee to inspect and discover a case of natural forest destruction in Thanh Son village, Pho Cuong commune.
Through inspection, the road is about 1km long with a total area of over 7,500m2 formed in the KfW6 forest - the Project for Sustainable Forest Restoration and Management funded by the German Government and implemented in Quang Ngai province - at lot 25, 26, compartment 8, sub-area 334, Pho Cuong commune without being licensed by the authorities. To have this road, the construction unit leveled and cut down hundreds of forest trees.
Duc Pho Town Forest Protection Department identified Mr. NVB (residing in Pho Khanh Commune) as the person involved in the above incident. However, Mr. B. was not present in the locality. Therefore, Duc Pho Town Forest Protection Department contacted him by phone and Mr. B. said that he had handed over all relevant land use right certificates to Deo Ca Group (from February 2023) to prepare documents and procedures related to the construction of the project for approval by competent authorities.
“By 3:00 p.m. on May 30, Deo Ca Group had delivered some documents regarding the lease of the above-mentioned land plots. However, we are requesting relevant authorities to coordinate in checking whether the lease of this land is in accordance with the law or not. As for the road opening permit in this area, Deo Ca Group has not provided it yet,” Mr. Vo Van Trinh informed.
The KfW6 afforestation project is funded by the German Government and invested by the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Quang Ngai province. The project was implemented in Tu Nghia, Nghia Hanh districts and Duc Pho town from 2006 to 2015, with a total area of 4,600 hectares. However, recently, many forest areas in Duc Pho town have been destroyed to plant acacia.
