The Quang Ngai province's inter-sectoral task force against IUU fishing was established with the participation of the Border Guard, the Department of Agriculture and Environment, the Provincial Police and leaders of coastal localities, pointing out major problems that make it difficult to remove the EC "yellow card".
Although the management of fishing vessels and handling of violations have been tightened, the number of vessels crossing the border and losing connection to monitoring the journey remains high, while the rate of verification and handling remains low. In particular, the issue of vessels lacking documents, vessels still operating under sentence and logistics service vessels aiding and abetting violations are issues that need to be thoroughly addressed.
To address these shortcomings, the Provincial People's Committee has assigned specific tasks to the Working Group to coordinate inspection, sealing and strictly handling fishing vessels that do not meet operating conditions, violating vessels, and vessels that have not returned to the locality for a long time. Strictly manage the group of vessels that are serving sentences and strictly handle irresponsible groups and individuals.
The working group requires units to coordinate closely, focus on verifying and thoroughly handling ships that cross the border and lose connection. Review, count, and strictly handle groups of unqualified ships, as well as service ships that assist in violations.
The ultimate goal is to comprehensively overcome these shortcomings and limitations before the EC inspection team arrives. The units will report their implementation results weekly to the Department of Agriculture and Environment to synthesize the report to the Government 's Anti-IUU Fishing Task Force.
