Quang Ninh: Each OCOP product is a 'tourism ambassador'
Connecting OCOP products with tourism in Quang Ninh province contributes to creating a sustainable market for these products, helping tourists have more experiences. Quang Ninh is actively promoting its advantages and strongly developing the tourism industry, considering it a driving force for development. Each year, the province welcomes millions of domestic and international tourists. This could be an effective channel for promoting and introducing the province's OCOP products. According to the Quang Ninh Provincial Office for New Rural Development Coordination, through tourism activities and tourists, OCOP products will spread to many places. Conversely, OCOP products are a source of inspiration and a way to promote unique values to attract tourists to the locality. Therefore, promoting the development of OCOP products in conjunction with tourism development is the right direction, and OCOP products can become tourism "ambassadors" to increase their attractiveness to tourists.
Statistics from the Quang Ninh Provincial Department of Tourism show that in the first 10 months of 2024 alone, Quang Ninh welcomed over 16.7 million tourists, a 20% increase compared to the same period last year, including over 3 million international visitors. Total tourism revenue reached over 40.1 trillion VND, a 38% increase compared to the same period in 2023. This is a positive figure and a good sign for the tourism industry. This also shows that developing OCOP products in conjunction with tourism development is a completely logical direction, because each OCOP product creates its own unique characteristics of a locality, reflecting the traditions, customs, and lifestyles of the people to tourists. This creates a unique identity for the destination, increases product value, and simultaneously develops local tourism products. Currently, Quang Ninh has 417 OCOP products from 13 localities that have achieved 3-5 stars. Most of the OCOP products that have been awarded stars continue to thrive, maintaining and improving food safety and quality standards; 100% of 3-5 star OCOP products are listed on the e-commerce platform https://www.ocopquangninh.com.vn; packaging and labels are gradually being improved, upgraded, and printed with complete information as required. Many of the province's OCOP products have expanded their markets thanks to their connection with tourism development, such as Ha Long pearls; Quy Hoa golden flower tea; BAVABI oyster and shrimp paste… Each OCOP product is a "cultural ambassador" of each locality in Quang Ninh, reflecting the traditions, customs, and lifestyles of the people. Tourists, during their visits and shopping, always need information about the unique features of the product, from the raw materials, processing, and production process to its use value and cultural-spiritual value. Ms. Nguyen Thi Hien, Director of the Department of Industry and Trade of Quang Ninh province, said that in 2024, the province will continue to promote the OCOP program through many large fairs and events, attracting thousands of visitors to visit and shop. Not only focusing on the domestic market, Quang Ninh is also actively promoting the export of OCOP products internationally, especially through large-scale trade fairs such as Vietnam Expo 2024, the China-Vietnam Border Tourism Festival, and many trade events in China and ASEAN. These activities help OCOP businesses connect with international partners and seek opportunities to develop products in major markets. Through the combination of OCOP products and tourism, Quang Ninh is continuing to affirm its position as a destination not only for its natural beauty but also for its unique culture and products, contributing to the sustainable economic development of the mining region.
