The Quang Tri Marathon 2024 - Journey to the Land of Fire - will feature athletes from the Vietnamese National Athletics Team, as well as international athletes from Japan, Australia, and India. Proceeds from BIB sales will be donated to the Quang Tri Provincial Gratitude Fund.
This afternoon, May 27th, at the Government Guest House (Hanoi), the People's Committee of Quang Tri province and the Vietnam Agriculture Newspaper jointly organized a press conference to introduce the Quang Tri Marathon 2024 - Journey to the Land of Fire.

This is an important event leading up to the first Peace Festival in 2024 – the first time it will be held in Quang Tri province – and in commemoration of the 77th anniversary of the War Invalids and Martyrs Day on July 27th. The organizing committee hopes that the race will become an annual event, promoting the development of sports tourism, spreading the running movement, building a healthy lifestyle, and improving community health with the motto: "Be healthy to build and protect the Fatherland."
The event will also contribute to stimulating tourism, promoting the image, land, people, and scenic spots of Quang Tri, the "land of fire," attracting domestic and international tourists to visit, experience tourism products, and reminisce about the old battlefields.
In particular, all revenue from the sale of BIBs at the Quang Tri Marathon 2024 will be donated to the Quang Tri Provincial Gratitude Fund, further enhancing the significance of the event.

Coming to Quang Tri this summer, visiting historical sites, athletes and tourists will carry with them the dream of reunification and the aspiration for unity of the people in the Quang Tri region."
This is also an opportunity for athletes to fully admire the majestic beauty of the "land of fire" on a journey through history, showcasing the glorious victories of our army and people along the running routes.
At the press conference, Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Thach, Editor-in-Chief of Vietnam Agriculture Newspaper, shared: “'Gratitude and repayment' is a precious tradition of the Vietnamese people. The Quang Tri Marathon 2024 - Journey to the Land of Fire is a message that we must always be grateful, remember, and be proud of what our ancestors sacrificed to achieve the independence and peace we have today.”
Every step taken by the athletes is directed towards a common "journey back to our roots," contributing a small part to the Gratitude Fund, thereby spreading love and national pride.
Attractive prizes According to the current Athletics Law and the regulations of the International Association of Marathon and Long Distance Runners (AIMS), the Organizing Committee will select the 7 best-performing male and female athletes in the 3 distances to award prizes with a total cash prize of over 100 million VND, along with gifts from sponsors. As with other races, athletes participating in the Quang Tri Marathon 2024 will receive the best medical care, water and electrolyte stations, and safety measures along the race course. |
To date, the Quang Tri Marathon 2024 - Journey to the Land of Fire has attracted nearly 2,500 athletes from provinces, cities, and sectors nationwide. These include athletes from the Vietnamese National Athletics Team such as Nguyen Thi Oanh and Nguyen Trung Cuong; and 6 international athletes from Japan, Australia, and India.

The opening ceremony and some side activities will take place on the evening of June 15th. In the early morning of June 16th, athletes will compete in three distances: 21 km, 10 km, and 5 km. The 21 km distance has a unique route, starting from Dong Ha City and finishing at Quang Tri Ancient Citadel; the other two distances take place around Quang Tri Ancient Citadel. The maximum completion time for the 21 km distance is 3 hours and 30 minutes, for the 10 km distance is 1 hour and 40 minutes, and for the 5 km distance is 1 hour and 15 minutes.
