The inauguration ceremony of the Sam Son City Beach Square and Festival Landscape Axis took place on the evening of April 27th, as part of the opening night of the Sam Son Beach Tourism Festival 2024. Over 300,000 residents and tourists participated in the event, enjoying vibrant artistic performances and admiring the spectacular fireworks display at the modern beach square, considered one of the largest in Vietnam.

Launched during the summer tourist season of 2023, Sam Son Beach Square has quickly become a familiar meeting place for locals and tourists, a venue for major local cultural and artistic programs, and one of the most attractive public spaces for visitors to Sam Son.

"The new symbol of Sam Son," invested in by Sun Group , was designed by ASPECT Studios (Australia) - a leading international firm in landscape architecture design. The square has a capacity of over 10,000 people, is 2.6km long and 120m wide, and connects directly to the Nam Song Ma Boulevard, leading to the large-scale Sun World Sam Son entertainment complex.

The square's space is meticulously maintained with lush greenery along the boulevard and daily-mended lawns. Notably, the imprint of local culture permeates every architectural detail and landscape: the iconic Hon Trong Mai rock formation and Dong Son bronze drum motifs are interwoven into the overall design. The square's pavement is made of natural cubic stones in three colors, inspired by famous boulevards around the world such as the Champs-Élysées.

Many tourists also choose to arrive early to fully experience and check in at the Beach Square, which is likened to "the Singapore corner in Sam Son".
Ms. Pham Thu Hang (Ninh Binh City) said: “As usual, around this time, our family comes back to Sam Son for fun. We go to the beach square to watch the water show, check in at Hon Trong Mai, watch the fireworks, and this year there are many shops and restaurants open. Next year we will rent a mini hotel right in the square for convenience.”

Twenty decorative trees shaped like bronze drums, ranging in height from 4.8m to 11.5m, adorn Sam Son Beach Square, are inspired by the imagery and patterns of the Dong Son bronze drums and are a special highlight attracting tourists. Each tree trunk is made of hot-dip galvanized steel, intricately shaped, and painted in colors that match the landscape architecture. Combined with a pre-programmed, multi-colored artistic lighting system, visitors can appreciate the unique and captivating beauty whether they visit during the day or at night.

Mr. Nguyen Manh Hung's family (from Hanoi) were delighted to take photos next to the 1:1 scale model of Hon Trong Mai (Rooster and Hen Islet) on Truong Le Mountain. He shared: "It's been many years since I last visited Sam Son, and I truly feel the transformation in the landscape and environment. I was very surprised by the spacious and modern beach square here. The atmosphere is airy and vibrant; the whole family can check in, drink coffee, watch the water show, and admire the fireworks – it's a feast for the eyes."

The commercial shophouse system along the main boulevard has begun operating to serve tourists during the summer, with restaurants, cafes, souvenir shops, mini-hotels, indoor entertainment areas, etc. High-rise towers with sea views will soon appear, further completing the infrastructure of the Sam Son central area.

As dusk fell, the square lit up, awaiting the biggest festival of the year in Thanh Hoa province. The appearance of popular young artists such as Duc Phuc, Min, Duong Hoang Yen, the Oplus group, and their energetic dance performances created a buzz for the event amidst the applause and cheers of tens of thousands of spectators.

Following a spectacular 15-minute fireworks display, the vibrant Sam Son beach festival season officially kicked off with numerous cultural, artistic, and sporting activities, lasting throughout the summer, especially the events at the beach square.

Besides being an ideal space for events and festivals, Sam Son Beach Square has also become a favorite cultural destination for locals and tourists, especially with the free water fountain shows held nightly throughout the summer. The two fountains utilize German technology with 300 nozzles and a lighting system combined with synchronized full-range and ultrasonic speakers, controlled by a modern software system.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mr. Le Van Tu, Chairman of the People's Committee of Sam Son City, affirmed that the completion and commissioning of the Sea Square - the Sam Son festival landscape axis - is a major turning point for Sam Son's tourism industry.
Following the inauguration of the seaside square, Sun World Sam Son Park will officially open on May 18th. In the future, when the high-rise apartment towers with expansive sea views become operational, Sun Group's ecosystem in Sam Son will gradually become complete. The expectation of welcoming 8.5 million visitors this year will become a reality, and the coastal city will soon become a year-round tourist destination.
