Regulations on granting scholarships to students majoring in Mathematics

The Ministry of Education and Training has just issued the Regulations on considering and granting scholarships to students of the regular training program in Mathematics under the National Key Program for Mathematics Development for the period 2021 - 2030.

The scholarship consideration and granting aim to attract and improve the quality of students majoring in Mathematics to develop high-quality human resources in teaching, research and application of Mathematics.

This document applies to students studying full-time undergraduate training programs in Mathematics (code: 74601) as prescribed in Circular No. 09/2022/TT-BGDĐT dated June 6, 2022 of the Ministryof Education and Training stipulating the List of statistical training majors at higher education institutions nationwide, including the following majors: Mathematics, Computational Science, Data Science, Applied Mathematics, Mechanical Mathematics, and Mathematical Informatics.

The maximum number of scholarships is 150/year. Scholarships are considered by academic year and divided into two consideration periods, with scholarships awarded for each semester. Each semester is not more than 5 months, each year is not more than 10 months. Each student is considered and awarded a maximum of 8 semesters.

The time for considering and granting scholarships for the first semester is before October 31 every year and before March 31 every year for considering and granting scholarships for the second semester.

Scholarship levels are prescribed in Clause 2, Article 6 of Circular 22/2022/TT-BTC dated March 30, 2022 of the Ministry of Finance guiding the management and use of regular expenditures to implement the National Key Program on Mathematics Development for the period 2021 to 2030.

Students are considered and granted a first semester scholarship if they fully meet the following criteria:

First-year students who won first or second prizes in the excellent student competition at the provincial or central city level or higher while they were high school students, with conduct (or training) and academic performance (or study) ranked as good or higher according to the results of the 12th grade.

For students from the second year onwards, the average score of the school year prior to the year of consideration and scholarship for subjects in the Mathematics knowledge group must be from 8.0 points (on a scale of 10) or equivalent or higher. There must be no score below 4.0 points (on a scale of 10) or equivalent for all subjects registered in the school year prior to the year of consideration and scholarship (excluding subjects for debt repayment and improvement). The training classification must be from good or higher, and the school must not consider, warn, criticize, deduct training points, or discipline from the level of reprimand or higher during the period of consideration and scholarship granting.

Students who have been considered and granted scholarships for semester 1 will continue to be considered and granted scholarships for semester 2 if they fully meet the following criteria:

The average score of the first semester for subjects in the Mathematics knowledge group is from 8.0 (on a scale of 10) and equivalent or higher. There is no score below 4.0 (on a scale of 10) and equivalent for all subjects registered in the first semester (excluding subjects for debt repayment and improvement). The training classification is from good or higher, not being considered, reminded, criticized, deducted training points, disciplined from the level of reprimand or higher by the school during the scholarship consideration and awarding period.

In addition to the above regulations, some other priority criteria are in the following order: Students studying in advanced, talented bachelor's training programs in Mathematics; have scientific research results that have won prizes at the Ministry level or higher; have won prizes in the National Mathematics Olympiad for students and pupils; Female students; students who have not received scholarships from any other organization or individual during the scholarship consideration and award period; Belonging to the group of 4 priority groups 1 and 6 priority groups 2 in the Appendix issued with Circular No. 08/2022/TT-BGDDT dated June 6, 2022 of the Ministry of Education and Training promulgating the Regulations on university and college admissions in Preschool Education; Students studying at three Mathematics faculties of three higher education institutions including: Faculty of Mathematics - Mechanics - Informatics, University of Science, Vietnam National University, Hanoi; Faculty of Mathematics - Statistics, Quy Nhon University; Faculty of Mathematics and Information Technology, University of Science, Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City.
