At the conference, the representative of the consulting consortium gave a general report on the project to adjust the General Planning of Hoi An City.

Accordingly, we strive to build Hoi An into a special type II urban area by 2030; aim to develop a smart city by 2030, orienting the development of an "ecological, cultural, tourist " urban area of international stature, developing on the foundation of: national - modern - sustainable.

According to the draft project to adjust the general planning of Hoi An city, by 2035, Hoi An will have a population of about 160,000 people; by 2050, about 230,000 people (including converted population). The urban development orientation is mainly towards the west of the city - Thanh Ha ward and Cam Ha commune.

According to the draft project, the city's master plan will divide Hoi An into 7 sub-zones: heritage service urban area, island urban area associated with cultural - service center, new urban and rural development area, heritage service urban area, urban area associated with river landscape, sea gateway service urban area, residential area associated with biosphere conservation.

Speaking at the conference, the comrades in the Provincial Party Standing Committee basically agreed with the draft project, and at the same time suggested that it is necessary to continue clarifying some important contents such as: the issue of indigenous people in exploiting and developing Hoi An's resources; new driving forces for developing Hoi An besides the tourism economy ; land use indicators to achieve the criteria of a special type II urban area; appropriate population indicators to both preserve heritage and meet the urban development process...

Provincial Party Secretary Luong Nguyen Minh Triet said that the draft planning closely followed Resolution No. 31 of the Provincial Party Committee on building Hoi An - an ecological, cultural and tourist city; closely followed the recently approved Provincial Planning as well as other requirements in developing Hoi An.

Basically agreeing with the main contents of the draft project, comrade Luong Nguyen Minh Triet requested the Party Committee of the Provincial People's Committee and the People's Committee of Hoi An City to absorb the opinions at the meeting, consult the appraisal council, and the opinions of relevant ministries and branches to complete the draft so that the competent authority can soon issue a decision to approve the most appropriate adjustment of Hoi An planning.

Planning must create motivation to attract investment resources for Hoi An City to develop comprehensively. In addition, it is necessary to harmoniously resolve opposing issues such as: growth with traffic pressure and access to tourism products; the lives of local people with tourists and immigrants; preserving heritage values with economic development; population size with infrastructure needs..." - Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee Luong Nguyen Minh Triet emphasized.
