That journey involves the participation of many factors, in which the efforts and innovation of the unit play a central role.”

The School of Interdisciplinary Sciences and Arts was established on the foundation of the Graduate School (established in 2002) and the Faculty of Interdisciplinary Sciences (established in 2017). These are the predecessor organizations entrusted by Vietnam National University, Hanoi to carry out breakthrough missions in many training periods.

From a practical perspective, the establishment of the school also stems from the development trend of the creative economy and cultural industries in the world today. In this context, the Party and the Government have issued many important policy documents, affirming the position and role of creativity and art in the development of the cultural industry. At the same time, they encourage educational institutions to promote the training of appropriate human resources for the development of the country.

With the slogan "creating the future with interdisciplinary knowledge", the School of Interdisciplinary Sciences and Arts is currently implementing many trend-setting majors at the university level.

These conditions are the premise for Hanoi National University to build a training and research facility on creativity and art - the final piece to complete the multidisciplinary and multi-field structure. Therefore, this model transformation not only contributes to the development of the educational institution when inheriting a team of experienced scientists with a solid foundation in interdisciplinary research, but also creates conditions for the school to expand its training scale and enhance its influence domestically and internationally. At the same time, it affirms the consistent vision of Hanoi National University in pioneering the construction of new educational models in Vietnam.

With the slogan “creating the future with interdisciplinary knowledge”, the School of Interdisciplinary Sciences and Arts is currently implementing many trend-setting majors at the university level such as: brand management; entertainment and event management; smart and sustainable urban management; heritage resource management; creative design with majors in fashion and creativity, digital graphics, sustainable interior design.

It is expected that from 2024, the school will enroll additional majors: architecture and landscape design; visual arts with majors in art photography and contemporary visual arts.

Inspired by the Indochina College of Fine Arts

According to Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Van Hieu, the establishment of the School of Interdisciplinary Sciences and Arts was significantly inspired by the valuable legacy left by the Indochina College of Fine Arts (Indochina University). Indochina University is also the predecessor of Hanoi National University.

Appearing exactly 100 years after the establishment of the Indochina College of Fine Arts, the School of Interdisciplinary Sciences and Arts has found this harmony through its philosophy of art education as well as its interdisciplinary training model. This is an important foundation, demonstrating the sacred connection between the tradition of liberal arts and interdisciplinary education of Hanoi National University from the past to the present.
