Eight years after the first-generation Volkswagen T-Roc was launched, the second generation has officially launched with a larger body, sharper styling and a completely redesigned interior. It also pioneers the use of a new full hybrid system across the entire Volkswagen Group, along with updated mild hybrid options. In terms of overall design, the new 2025 Volkswagen T-Roc is still based on the overall "form" of the old generation but has been updated to be more modern. The front of the car is inspired by VW's electric car line, replacing the traditional grille with a full-width LED bar and glowing logo. Sporty bumper air intakes and a sophisticated underbody protection plate complete the front design.
The body is still recognizable with its signature “hockey stick” character line that runs up to the muscular C-pillar, but cleaner surfaces and reshaped wheel arches give it a fresher look. Buyers can now opt for wheels up to 20 inches, while a steeply raked rear windscreen and wide LED taillights give it a coupe-like feel. Volkswagen will offer the new T-Roc in base, Life, Style and R-Line trims. The sportier R-Line trim features larger front bumpers, a rear diffuser and an optional Black Style package that adds dark exterior accents. It will be available in six colors, including Canary Yellow, Flamed Red and Celestial Blue, with a contrasting black roof on some color schemes. In terms of dimensions, the SUV is now 4,373mm long, 122mm longer than before. The wheelbase has been extended by 28mm to 2,631mm, creating a slightly more spacious interior. This places the T-Roc between the smaller Taigo and T-Cross and the larger Tiguan and Tayron in VW's European SUV portfolio. Volkswagen says the new T-Roc’s interior is now on par with the Tiguan and Tayron. The dashboard replaces the hard plastics of the previous generation with a fabric covering, combined with higher-quality materials throughout the cabin, and ambient lighting shines through the perforated leatherette surfaces. Sustainability also plays a big part, with around 20% of the interior plastics coming from recycled materials.
Sitting at the centre of the dashboard is a freestanding infotainment screen, available in 10.4- or 12.9-inch sizes, along with a 10-inch digital instrument cluster and an optional head-up display. While the much-criticised touch-sensitive sliders still sit below the screens, Volkswagen has balanced them out with physical controls on the centre console borrowed from the Tiguan. This multi-function knob controls volume, drive mode and even “ambience,” reducing reliance on touch menus. Optional features include ergoActive seats with 14-way power adjustment and massage, and a Harman Kardon sound system. The T-Roc also gets an upgraded Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS). The new version of the Travel Assist system supports automatic lane changes and has improved predictive speed limit control. The system also adds a new exit warning system and Park Assist Pro, which allows fully automated parking up to 50m with optional memory function. Practicality has also been improved. Taller passengers benefit from more cabin space, and luggage capacity has increased to 465 litres, 20 litres more than before. Deeper underneath, the T-Roc is based on the updated MQB Evo platform. The launch line-up includes two mild-hybrid versions of the 1.5-litre eTSI engine.
The base version produces 114hp and 220Nm of torque, while the more powerful version produces 148hp and 250Nm of torque. Both are mated to a 7-speed DSG gearbox and are assisted by a 48V system that can add an additional 19hp. Notably, it is Volkswagen's first fully hybrid version, marking a milestone for the group. This setup combines the 1.5-liter TSI evo2 engine with an electric module and a lithium-ion battery located under the rear seats. There will be two power levels: 134 horsepower or 168 horsepower, each producing 306Nm of torque. For those who prefer traditional power, the 2.0-litre TSI engine will eventually join the range in both standard and mild-hybrid form, with the optional 4Motion all-wheel drive system available as an option. Pre-orders for the new T-Roc in Europe will open at the end of August, with deliveries scheduled for November. Pricing will be announced closer to launch.
