The conference aims to review the implementation of the GCM Agreement Implementation Plan according to Decision No. 402/QD-TTg dated March 20, 2020 of the Prime Minister and discuss solutions to improve the effectiveness of the GCM Agreement implementation in the coming time.
Speaking at the opening of the Conference, Ms. Phan Thi Minh Giang, Deputy Director of the Consular Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said that the Conference, taking place on the International Migrants Day (December 18) with the theme: "Honoring the contributions of migrants and respecting their rights", is a meaningful occasion to have a clearer and more complete view of the positive contributions of migration and migrants to development, and at the same time, to exchange solutions to promote legal, safe and orderly migration for the legitimate rights and interests of migrants.
Faced with the reality that legal migration opportunities are significantly narrowing and the challenges posed to migration in the context of rapid development of artificial intelligence along with the requirements of green transformation and digital economy, Ms. Phan Thi Minh Giang emphasized that it is necessary to further strengthen cooperation to minimize informal migration channels, prevent and combat crimes of illegal migration and human trafficking due to technology abuse, promote legal migration channels, thereby helping to reduce global inequality and accelerate the implementation of sustainable development goals.
