Carreras fulfilled his dream of playing for Real. |
According to Marca , Real will pay Carreras' transfer fee in installments. This is a move to strengthen the left wing of "Los Blancos" after the 0-4 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the recent FIFA Club World Cup semi-finals.
Carreras becomes Real's fourth signing this summer, following Franco Mastantuono, Dean Huijsen and Trent Alexander-Arnold. In total, the Royal team has spent 167 million euros to strengthen the squad under coach Alonso.
With Ferland Mendy constantly having physical problems and Fran Garcia disappointing with many mistakes, the left-back has become Real's weak point throughout the past season. Carreras is considered one of the top targets of coach Xabi Alonso thanks to his ability to support the attack and pass the ball impressively.
The Spaniard fell out of favour under Erik ten Hag and was loaned out to Benfica in January 2024. After just a few months of brilliant performances in Portugal, he was bought by Benfica for €6m last summer.
Meanwhile, Manchester United, although not intending to activate the buy-back clause of Carreras, will still benefit financially thanks to the clause to receive 20% of the difference exceeding the 6 million euros that Benfica spent. Accordingly, the "Red Devils" are expected to pocket about 9 million euros from this deal.
