Mr. Nguyen Hoang Anh (27 years old), former Vice Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Ngoc Thanh Commune (now Ngoc Chuc Commune) still remembers the feeling of regret when he learned that he was no longer on the list after the commune merger. "When I first heard the news, I was very sad because I had been attached to the grassroots work for many years. But then I thought, maybe this is an opportunity for me to start a new direction" - Mr. Hoang Anh shared.

Born into a family with a traditional fish sauce making profession, Hoang Anh has been familiar with the smell of linh fish, mam sac, and mam ruoc since he was a child. Seeing his mother hunched over the fish sauce pot every day, diligently drying and salting fish, he once thought that was just a way to make a living. Now, he sees that it is a solid foundation to start a new journey. With the Hoang Anh fish sauce brand, he developed the main product including linh fish sauce, then made more fish sauce, mam sac, mam dua, mam ruoc chua... In particular, he took advantage of social networks to promote the products. Every time he posted a clip of making fish sauce or livestreamed to sell products, sometimes there were tens of thousands of views, he was overjoyed because he sold products to his mother.

Now, Mr. Hoang Anh is a “young boss”, planning production, controlling quality and delivering directly to regular customers. Each jar of fish sauce is a slice of his homeland, the mark of a young person who dares to change direction to renew himself.

Starting from mushroom farm

Instead of choosing a traditional career like Hoang Anh, Mr. Pham Xuan Toan (36 years old, living in Tan Dien hamlet, Chau Thanh commune) turned to clean technology agriculture . Previously, he was Deputy Secretary of the Giuc Tuong Commune Youth Union (formerly). When the commune merged, he decided to quit his job to go home to help his wife take care of 2 young children and wholeheartedly start a business from the gray oyster mushroom growing model. “At first, I felt sad when I quit my job. But looking back, the part-time salary was not enough to take care of the family. At that time, I had invested in a mushroom farm 3 months ago, so I decided to quit to focus on this new direction,” said Mr. Toan.

Every morning, when many people are still awake, Toan enters the farm to check the humidity, light and care for each young mushroom. For him, each mushroom growing from the substrate is a testament to his belief in a new beginning.

The stories of Hoang Anh and Xuan Toan are just two of many cases of young officials in An Giang leaving their offices to start a different journey. Some returned to farming, some pursued traditional occupations, and some learned new trades to be more stable in life. They no longer speak at many meetings, nor directly initiate youth or farmer movements like before. But through their energetic and responsible way of living and working today, they are still contributing to building their homeland in their own way.
