BHG - At the end of May and the beginning of June, the rice fields in Quang Binh district are ripe with golden yellow. Across the fields, farmers are bustling into the harvest season, the sound of combine harvesters echoes, mixed with the cheerful laughter and the fragrant smell of new rice. Despite the hardships, the sweat, the farmers are very excited because they have produced firm, golden rice grains and a bountiful harvest.
From early morning, when the sun had not yet risen, people in Ha Quang village, Vi Thuong commune, went to the fields to harvest the spring rice crop. Their hands quickly harvested each firm rice flower, then gathered them into bundles and transferred them to the threshing machine so that they could bring the rice home to dry. Mr. Long Van Nui happily shared: “Compared to the previous crop, this crop had a better harvest. Together with 12 households in the village, my family participated in the first trial planting of the NTS01 rice variety on an area of 0.18 hectares. This is a rice variety with good resistance, although the early season was cold for a long time, the rice still grew normally, without pests, fungi, or bacteria. The rice plants were strong, rarely fell over, the flowers were long, and the grains were firm and even. The average yield was estimated at 6.3 tons/ha.”

Vi Thuong commune is one of the key rice growing areas in Quang Binh district, with a total area of 204 hectares. Most of the varieties are purebred, high-quality hybrid rice such as: Viet Lai 20, HKT99, Thien Uu 8, Nhi Uu 838. In addition, Ha Quang village has implemented a model of testing NTS0 rice varieties with an area of 1 hectare. Most people sow spring rice early, so the rice is in the ripening stage, harvested simultaneously. The estimated yield is 62.2 quintals/ha; the estimated output is 1,273 tons. This is a positive result from promoting the application of science and technology in production, reasonable variety structure, and guaranteed crop calendar. On that basis, the commune continues to promote and encourage the expansion of high-yield rice varieties, concentrated planting to improve economic efficiency for farmers.
Bang Lang Commune is one of the pioneers in implementing land consolidation, plot exchange, applying tray seedling and rice transplanting machines, creating a clear change in agricultural production. From small, fragmented fields, the fields have now been re-planned into concentrated cultivation areas, convenient for mechanization in sowing and harvesting. Thanks to that, people reduce labor, save production costs, and rice productivity is increasingly stable. This spring crop, the whole commune planted 189 hectares, reaching 100% of the plan. In addition to hybrid rice, people also favor purebred rice varieties such as PC15, Ha Giang Te nuong and local sticky rice. These types of rice produce soft, sticky, delicious rice grains, with high market prices.
In the enthusiastic atmosphere of production, the communes of Xuan Giang, Tien Yen, Yen Binh, Tan Trinh, Tan Bac... are rushing into the harvest season. The expected rice yield in the localities is estimated at over 60 quintals/ha. With a total rice area of 1,800 ha, Quang Binh district has directed the communes and towns to mobilize people to harvest rice according to the motto "green at home is better than ripe in the fields". At the same time, the land must be prepared immediately after harvesting, plowing deeply into the stubble, keeping water in the fields, and sprinkling lime powder to limit the source of pests and diseases before planting the Summer-Autumn rice crop. In particular, priority is given to expanding the area using extremely short-term and short-term rice varieties with high yield, good quality, and resistance to pests and diseases. Limit direct sowing in low-lying areas, without proactive irrigation, and frequently flooded areas, and arrange all resources for planting as soon as possible, striving to complete the planting in early July.
With the diligence and creativity of farmers and the close guidance of the government, it will add confidence and enthusiasm for people to continue a new production season with the expectation of achieving high productivity and good quality, contributing to ensuring food security and successfully implementing agricultural production targets in 2025.
