Feel at ease knowing your child can swim.
Small and petite in a pink swimsuit, with goggles covering her eyes, six-year-old Phan Mong Nghi, under the guidance of her coach, slowly descended the steps into the swimming pool. Stepping into the warm water, she glanced up at her mother, who was watching from above, smiling and cheering her on.
“This summer, my daughter is starting first grade. At home, she loves water, so we enrolled her in swimming lessons. Despite our busy work schedules, my husband and I try our best to make time to take her to and from lessons every day for her sake. Learning to swim early will be better for her,” shared Ms. Bui Thi Thu Hang (Lam Vien Ward, Da Lat). Under the guidance of the instructor, after only a short time, Mong Nghi became familiar with the water, practicing diving and playing with her friends in the pool.
Meanwhile, Ms. Vu Le Huyen Trinh, 43 years old, residing in Xuan Huong ward, Da Lat, said that this year she continued to enroll her 14-year-old son, Vo Gia Huy, in advanced swimming classes, even though he already knew how to swim two years ago. According to Ms. Trinh, thanks to learning to swim, her son's health has improved significantly, and he experiences fewer minor aches and pains than before. "Knowing how to swim also gives the family more peace of mind when he goes to school far away or to places near rivers and lakes," Ms. Huyen Trinh said.
Summer swimming courses
With its mild, cool climate year-round, most swimming pools in Da Lat use heated water systems to maintain operation. The water is heated using electricity or solar energy systems. Many large swimming pools have invested in heated pools. In addition, many large hotels in Da Lat have also built heated pools for their guests and sell tickets to locals to swim. According to pool owners, besides the costs of maintenance, water changes, and ensuring hygiene and safety, maintaining a stable water temperature increases operating costs, leading to higher prices for swimming tickets and swimming lessons.
Taking a stroll around the heated swimming pools in Da Lat in early summer, we not only encountered many adults, teenagers, and students swimming, but also quite a few parents registering their children for summer swimming lessons.
According to our research, some places charge 2 million VND for 12 swimming lessons for children over 6 years old, with each lesson lasting over an hour. Others charge 2 million VND for 15 lessons, each lasting 90 minutes, with around 10 students per class. Subsequent lessons are discounted once the child learns to swim. Some places charge between 2.2 and 5 million VND for 10 lessons, depending on the number of students per class. Classes with fewer students, even one-on-one, have higher fees; larger classes have lower fees, but the maximum is usually only 5-6 students per class.
According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Huong, owner of Vu Huong Heated Swimming Pool, summer is always the busiest time of year. While on normal days only about 20-30 people come to swim and learn to swim each day, in the summer, the number increases to 150-200 people, mainly students. The swimming pool currently has about 20 instructors working during the summer to meet the increased demand for swimming lessons.
