These days, farmers are busy taking care of Tet flowers to sell in time for the 2024 Giap Thin Spring Festival. However, some places sell at good prices, while others are sluggish.

An Giang Tet flower village worried

On January 18, Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Do - an old farmer with nearly 30 years of experience growing Tet flowers in Hoa An commune, Cho Moi district, An Giang province - said that this year he planted more than 1,000 ^{square meters} of land with many types of Tet flowers in An Thanh flower village. This is the first time he has seen the cost of growing flowers increase sharply, but the Tet flower market has not yet seen "brightness".

Mr. Do's garden grows more than a dozen types of flowers such as raspberry chrysanthemum, Taiwan chrysanthemum, Tiger chrysanthemum, marigold, Thai sedum... Notably, this year, for the first time, Mr. Do experimented with growing purple raspberry chrysanthemum.

"This year, the cost of flower seeds and fertilizers has increased, pushing up the cost of growing Tet flowers for farmers, but no one has placed any orders yet," said Mr. Do.

According to Mr. Do, the Tet flower market is not very active at the moment. At this time last year, there were traders who placed deposits to buy flowers, but this year, there are no traders. Most of them just come to the flower village to survey and then leave.

This year, Mr. Do invested more than 50 million VND to grow more than 4,000 pots of flowers of all kinds to supply the market for Tet Giap Thin 2024.

Like Mr. Do, many flower farmers in An Thanh flower village are restless because the flowers are in season but there are very few traders coming to deposit and buy. The flower market situation this year seems sluggish, quite different from previous years.

The leader of the Farmers' Association of Hoa An commune said that An Thanh flower village has more than 57 households growing flowers, with more than 100,000 pots of various flowers supplied to the Tet market.

This year, An Thanh flower village will supply flowers such as: Chrysanthemum, Cat Tuong, Da Lan, Tuyet Son, Da Ly Huong, Daisies , Chrysanthemums... for the Tet market in provinces and cities such as: Dong Thap, Kien Giang, Ca Mau , Can Tho, Ho Chi Minh City...

"The cost of growing flowers has increased compared to last year, due to the increase in seedling and material prices. However, the flower market this year seems to be quieter than previous years," said the leader of the Farmers' Association of Hoa An commune.

Dong Thap has a good season of raspberry chrysanthemums

The largest flower village in the West (Sa Dec City, Dong Thap Province) is busy during the Tet season. In contrast to An Giang, gardeners in Dong Thap are in a good season of chrysanthemums and prices are also increasing. About 30% of the flowers have been ordered.

Of which, the traditional yellow raspberry chrysanthemum is priced at 110,000 - 120,000 VND/pot, 20,000 - 30,000 VND/pot higher than last year. Two gerbera daisies are priced at 50,000 - 60,000 VND/pot.

Mr. Nguyen Van Ut (living in An Hoa ward, Sa Dec city) said that this year his family planted Tet flowers from the 6th lunar month on ^3,000m2 of land including varieties such as: traditional raspberries, colored raspberries, roses, tiger, marigolds...

"This year the weather is more stable than last year, smooth for the people, prices are very exciting, especially the price of chrysanthemums is very high. Every year the price of chrysanthemums is about 90,000 VND/pot, this year it is about 110,000 - 120,000 VND/pot.

The price of colored chrysanthemums is higher, from 150,000 VND - 180,000 VND/pot, but there are not enough products to deliver," said Mr. Ut.

The leader of the Economic Department of Sa Dec City said that Sa Dec flower village has over 100 hectares of flowers. This year, the flower village supplied the market with over 1.2 million flower baskets of all kinds. The supply of ornamental flowers for Tet is up to millions of products.

In addition to traditional flower varieties, gardeners also add many new varieties, such as chrysanthemums with up to 7 different colors.
