Barge causes Nhiem Bridge in Can Tho to tilt and split in two

Accordingly, the incident occurred at around 6:00 p.m. on March 23, when a barge carrying goods on the Can Tho River to Nhiem Bridge in Tan Thoi Commune, Phong Dien District, collided and got stuck, causing the bridge to crack in two and be at risk of collapsing.

According to observations, due to high water, the roof of the barge was hit, stuck in the middle span of the bridge and pulled this span off the bridge.

Confirming with Dan Tri reporter, a leader of Tan Thoi commune (Phong Dien district, Can Tho) said that the incident was quite serious. Currently, Tan Thoi commune People's Committee has sent forces to stand guard, blocking all directions to prevent vehicles, ships, and boats from passing through Nhiem bridge area to ensure the safety of the people.

"The incident is quite serious, the barge has pulled the cracked middle span of the bridge out of its original position, we are waiting for the traffic police to come and handle it according to regulations," said a leader of Tan Thoi commune.
