One such example is the launch of Vision Pro, a mixed reality headset that was supposed to revolutionize the industry. From the start, rumors of a price tag of over $2,000 made many people skeptical about the product’s accessibility.

Finally, Vision Pro was launched at a price of up to $3,500, only for professional users and developers. While visionOS and the technologies that come with it have great potential, this is really a product that will take years to perfect.

Apple’s biggest mistake with this launch was its approach. Instead of presenting the Vision Pro as a developer toolkit or a prototype, the company used a conventional marketing strategy that created unrealistic expectations for a device that wasn’t designed for the mass market. As a result, the public had a negative perception of the product that could have been avoided if Apple had taken a more modest and realistic approach.

In addition, the race to deploy artificial intelligence (AI) in Apple products has also failed. At the developer conference - WWDC in June 2024, the company announced Apple Intelligence with a series of AI features to improve the experience on iPhone and iPad. However, these promises have not been fully realized. Currently, these functions are only available in the US and not all are activated. Apple is said to deploy its AI feature set to Vietnamese users in 2025, about 1 year after the official announcement.

Apple tried to use the aforementioned "unfinished" features as a reason to promote the new iPhone line, but the failure to deliver on what was promised has undermined user confidence in the product, leading to more criticism.

These failures reflect a deeper problem: a lack of adaptability that is affecting Apple on multiple fronts. From design missteps like the MacBook’s butterfly keyboard to slow responses to products like Meta’s smart glasses and AI, Apple seems to be stuck with an old strategy that no longer fits the needs of today.

To maintain its leadership position in the coming decades, Apple will need to abandon old practices and demonstrate its ability to adapt to a changing world . Otherwise, current failures could become insurmountable problems in the future.
