“Pottery – Where Hands Tell Stories” is a workshop space in Tan Ninh ward, Tay Ninh province, run by 25-year-old Nguyen Minh Hy. Minh Hy explains: “Our hands cannot speak, but they can help create products from wonderful ideas.”

Minh Hy graduated from Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry with a degree in Chemical Engineering Technology. After encountering a ceramic vase, he fell in love with it and began to learn more about it. Minh Hy always wanted to delve deeper into ceramic glazes, their composition, transformations, and the effects they create on products.

While working on his graduation project, Minh Hy and his group of friends often worked in pottery workshops – both artisanal and industrial – in Lai Thieu (formerly Binh Duong province ), which further fueled his passion for pottery.

He harbored a plan to bring pottery to Tay Ninh so that more people would know about it, but lacked the funds. So he took on jobs and gradually saved up capital to realize his dream. During that time, he also learned additional pottery decorating techniques, how to use hand and electric potters, and glaze treatment techniques from workshops and artisans in Lai Thieu,...

The finished ceramic products are waiting to be fired.

In early July, Minh Hy launched a pottery workshop in Tan Ninh ward, which was well-received by many people, especially young people. "I wanted to create a comfortable space for people to be creative, learn about pottery, and appreciate the products they make themselves," he said.

Minh Hy is not the first person to bring pottery workshops to Tay Ninh. However, with the mindset of a young person wanting to try something new, he is not afraid of failure. Not stopping at pottery workshops, the young man is nurturing many new projects that he will implement in the near future, hoping to create a creative space in many fields and "go further" with pottery products.

Despite being newly opened, the workshops are always well-attended, sometimes with up to 20 participants a day, forcing Minh Hy to work until nearly midnight to complete them.

"Having found comfort and joy in creating with ceramics, I want to bring this to more people. I want everyone, after a tiring day of work or study, to come here and relax by immersing themselves in ceramic products," Minh Hy said.

At Minh Hy's workshop, customers can choose from three service packages: shaping and glazing the product to take home; shaping the product and sending it for firing; and creating on a pre-shaped and partially fired product. Customers will be guided by Minh Hy through the shaping, decorating, and glazing process.

Tran Minh Anh (from Lam Dong province), during her internship in Tay Ninh, accompanied a friend to experience Minh Hy's workshop. From 11 am to nearly 4 pm, Minh Anh meticulously crafted an apple-shaped mug and was very satisfied with her creation.

Nguyen Khoi Nguyen (residing in Tan Ninh ward) attended the workshop to create products for two days. “It was my first experience, and I found it a bit strange and quite difficult to make a specific item, but in return, I had the joy of chatting with friends,” Khoi Nguyen said.
